Nov-08-14  waustad: She has just passed the 2200 elo mark in live rating.
Dec-24-14  waustad: I wish you a very happy birthday!
Dec-24-14  siggemannen: <http://www.frau-schach.at/bedeutend...> Nice pic there with Carlsen
Feb-14-15  waustad: She drew with Markus Ragger in the first round of the Internationales Schachopen Graz.
Feb-14-15  waustad: Though games don't seem to be on live, chess results posted the top 25 boards promptly. The game was a Benko Gambit, with VE playing white. It ended with repeats on move 45. A draw will put both players down to lower boards in the second round.
Feb-14-15  waustad: With no DGT boards, I suppose how many games they post is an arbitrary choice. This is a pic of board 1: http://chess-results.com/JPG/FotoGa...

I've long suspected that there is only one set of DGT boards and the gear that connects them in Austria. Sometimes they bring webcam stuff and sometimes they don't. Since the tournament in Lienz is being broadcast and this one isn't, I have a little confirmatory evidence that my guess is true.

Feb-14-15  AsosLight: Mate, seems like you grew obsessive with her!
Feb-14-15  waustad: I've been a fan of several players for years. Drawing a player rated over 400 elo higher is a worthwhile event to notice. I gleaned different pieces of information at different times.
Feb-14-15  waustad: Here is commentary on the Ragger game where it seems that she missed a win when she took the perpetual (in German): http://styria.chess.at/turniere/201... The second round didn't go as well for her, though all of the Austrian women playing are tied at 0.5/2 behind Monika Socko, Kubra Ozturk and Irina Semanova for the top female prize. Being right around the median rating means that in the first round you either get the highest or lowest rated opponent and Ms. Exler has had a tough draw so far playing two GMs.
Mar-31-15  waustad: This years Vienna Chess Ladies tournament has begun. In the first round Veronika Exler, Katharina Newrkla and Lisa Hapala drew their games, and Anna Schnegg lost hers. The first two instances of this tournament seem to have been designed to give Austrian players a chance at WGM or WIM norms. Since then it looks more like WIM norms are the goal. Neither Eva Moser nor Anna-Christina Kopinits are playing, so it is the 4 Austrians mentioned along with 6 foreign players. http://chess-results.com/tnr163736....
Apr-01-15  waustad: The second day at the Vienna Chess Ladies did not go very well for the Austrian contingent. Both Veronika Exler and Katharina Newrkla had winning chances that seemed to evaporate during time pressure. Exler had won a queen for bishop and rook in a two knights defense and was up in material but the game ended in a draw. Newrkla had the upper hand as white in a French advance, with the comp evaluating her position as 11.84 at one point, but right at time control she allowed a trade of queens that diffused the attack and she ended up losing.
Apr-04-15  waustad: After 4 draws Ms Exler broke through today with a win against Lisa Hapala by out playing her in an endgame where she sacs the exchange to get her king into the opponent's camp with an advanced passed pawn. Games are available live and can be viewed later via http://www.chess-results.com/tnr163...
Apr-28-15  waustad: I read today that the Austrian Frauenbundesliga is being reorganized with 4 person teams and that some foreign players may be permitted. It will be interesting to see what these changes mean for the team structures.
Jun-05-15  waustad: I wondered why so few of the top Austrian players were entered in the blitz and rapid championships this year until I saw who was entered in the Mitropa events this year. They are close in dates and most of the regularly active are playing this time. The events are both in the mountains in the middle of the country and close together in time. Being in Styria got some of the semi retired players to come last time, but this year could be more of a stretch. Best of luck to the men and both women's teams.
Jun-14-15  waustad: She drew her game as black on first board for Austria I against compatriot Anna-Lena Schnegg today. The opening was a Caro-Ksnn that transposed into a line of the Old Indian that has not done well for black in this database, but it soon turned into a very drawish endgame. There are two Austrian teams for this year's Mitropa Cup because the French only sent an open team so the host Austrians are fielding two teams. The Austrian men won their first round 3.5-0.5 and with a win by Katharina Newrkla, Austria I is at 1.5-0.5. The Austrian women medalled in the last edition of the tournament, so perhaps that can happen again. Hungary and Italy are the elo favorites.
Jul-25-15  waustad: No surprises in the Österreichische Staatsmeisterschaft, where among the women, the higher rated player won all of the games. On the men's side thee were several draws, but again no higher rated player lost. On the women's side the pairings will even up fairly rapidly, with 15 players in a 9 round Swiss system event. The only player with a huge rating advantage in round 2 will be Katharina Newrkla, whose 1355 rated opponent got a bye in the first round.
Nov-08-15  waustad: She had a good start to this season in the Austrian Frauenbundesliga, going 3/3 on board 2 for ASVÖ Wulkaprodersdorf. This gained her 9 elo, taking her back over the 2200 mark. The team is now in second place behind ASVÖ Pamhagen. This will serve as a warm up for many of the players before the European Team Championships in Iceland.
Dec-01-15  Moszkowski012273: Dude..........
Dec-01-15  waustad: <Moszkowski012273> In case you haven't noticed, I report on most Austrian players here. I read the Austrian blog pretty much every day, if for no other reason to read some German. I haven't spoken the language regularly for almost 40 years, so it is a reminder. If you look around the site here you'll find my name on the pages of most Austrian players. Get over it. If it bothers you, don't read the posts.
Dec-01-15  Karposian: <waustad> Never mind <Moszkowski>. I enjoy reading your posts about the Austrian players.
Dec-01-15  thegoodanarchist: nearly every post here is by <waustad>. Are you her groupie?
Dec-02-15  Moszkowski012273: Careful..... Your paranoia is showing...

It is called "inquisitiveness". That is what the "?" symbol means. Plus, it is an attempt at humor.

Paranoia has a much different definition. Did you know the web has dictionary websites to help you with stuff like this?

Dec-02-15  Moszkowski012273: Oh really? Had no idea thank you...And did you know that just because a comment sits directly below yours does not necessarily mean that person is talking about you?

Yes, but usually if it is for someone else, then it will be addressed to the user name for clarity.
