Nov-09-16 | | cro777: GM Eugenio Torre to play in Reykjavik Open 2017 "One of the main goals of the organisers of Reykjavik Open is to have legends at the list of players. This year we are extremely happy to announce that Eugene Torre from Philippines will be playing in Reykjavik Open in April 19th-27th." https://www.facebook.com/forzeti/po... The Reykjavik open 2017 will be held for the 32nd time from April 19th till April 27th, 2017. The 2016 edition was voted the 3rd best open tournament in the world by ACP (only Gibraltar- and Dubai tournaments scored higher). The City of Reykjavík has sponsored the tournament since its inception in 1964, when Mikhail Tal won it with a record 12½ points out of 13. http://chess-results.com/tnr234895.... |

White can choose between liquidating to a pawn up endgame after 20.Qa6+ and the positional attack with 20.a4 followed by b5 and b6. GM Torre chose the first option (which regrettably was not winning). It is quite understandable because it was difficult to calculate, over the board, the consequences of the positional attack . 20. Qa6+ Qb7 21. Qxa7 Qxa7 22. Bxa7 Kc7 23. Bd4 Ra8 24. Rb3 Rg6 25. Re1 Re6 26. Ree3 d5 27. Be5+ Kb6 28. Kg2 Kb5 29. f4 Rae8 30. Kf3 h5 31. h3 f6 32. Bxf6 gxf4 33. Rxe6 Rxe6 34. Bc3 Bd6 35. Bd2 Re4 36. Nov-09-16 | | bubuli55: Good news GM Torre will play in Reykjavik Open. Thanks < cro777 >. |
Nov-09-16 | | bubuli55: < The critical position > Chess is hard. Tomorrow GM Torre plays IM E Atalik. He might take more chances to squeeze a win. A win will move him to second. Round 8 is critical. |
Nov-10-16 | | spawn2: Historically, GM Eugene has a good score against female opponents. Let's see if that record continues. He must be careful though, IM Ekaterina is playing well in this tourney. |
Nov-10-16 | | spawn2: Nimzo Indian Defense for GM Torre.. |
Nov-10-16 | | spawn2: GM Eugene is a bit aggressive in his games in the Suleymanpasa tournament. This I find interesting. Is he trying to finetune his tactical/calculating skills for future tournaments? He has one coming up in December in Subic and one in Reyjavik in April next year as shared by cro77. |

Nov-11-16 | | allan.dinglasan: Go for a win GM Torre!
World championship on going in NY between magnus and Karjakin, for non chess playing people, or for people who know how to move the chess pieces, i doubt if they know who is the world chess champ, believe it or not they still know that Garry Kasparov or Anatoly Karpov rule the chess world, sometimes, Spassky was mentioned. I just did a small survey. My point is, poor publicity in chess, they did not even know that Russia is no longer the king of chess, just a thought lang mga sir...... |
Nov-11-16 | | epistle: That is strange. For I made a survey too and EVERYONE knows who emerged the champion when you, Master B and his boss Michael had a tournament one evening not too long ago. |
Nov-12-16 | | spawn2: Nimzo-Larsen for GM Torre's last game in Suleymanpasa Closed GM Tourney. Hope he wins to finish his campaign on a positive note. |

Nov-20-16 | | pinoymaster77: Sayans yung sa World Seniors, di ko pa ma gets why the Czechs are extra antsy about issuing visas, even for official sporting events. Pati GM Joey couldn't make it, he had phone patch with DZSR Sports Radio last Thurs am for final appeal to sports / govt officials, pero ayun no PHI representative, saying na workout na daw budget ni PSC Chair Ramirez. Anyway, sana next year ang host country eh visa-friendly and AFGM gets to see action na and attract more attention to this annual FIDE event http://www.chess-results.com/tnr247... |
