Kibitzer's Corner
Aug-27-07  Karpova: An untitled player from the Netherlands who was born in 1990.

He will be remembered for his catastrophic 0.5/9 in the Euwe Stimulans 2007 (especially due to the fact that Amon Simutowe gained his final GM norm there).

Aug-27-07  dehanne: Weird, he looks like a hybrid of Jan Smeets and Sergey Karjakin.

So much for Dutch bio-engineering in chess.

Sep-10-07  ChessCompFan: <dehanne> yeah, i totally agree.

kingscrusher: Since Karpova's comment back in 2007, Opperwzen is one of the most dangerous IM's on Lichess in my view now. A fantastic player indeed in 2021 now.

Shouldn't he just stop playing chess altogether?

<It is the most absorbing of occupations. The least satisfying of desires. A nameless excrescence upon life. It annihilates a man. You have, let us say, a promising politician, a rising artist that you wish to destroy. Dagger or bomb are archaic and unreliable - but teach him, inoculate him with chess.>
