Dec-31-05  Udit Narayan: Any relation to Jenny McCarthy?
Apr-08-08  whiteshark:

"Chess is the Drosophila of artificial intelligence. However, computer chess has developed much as genetics might have if the geneticists had concentrated their efforts starting in 1910 on breeding racing Drosophila. We would have some science, but mainly we would have very fast fruit flies."

Mar-04-24  FM David H. Levin: I'm trying to obtain the score of a game that John won as Black in a Budapest Gambit. It featured a knight sack at b4 and was published in <Atlantic Chess News> during Dave Burris's editorship. I suspect that the game was played at the 1992 New Jersey Open or the 1992 Eastern Masters, but I haven't been able corroborate this.

I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.

  Sally Simpson: Hi David,

Went through all my databases, nothing. There is a UK Kevin McCarthy who played the Budapest on a regular basis but not your lad.

I have been in contact with an old friend in the USA who is a Budapest fan. Old school so he may have kept a notebook to jot down interesting games. He has been back in touch, nothing yet but he is still looking.

It was a very long and I knew a hopeless shot but I went through my copy of 'The Budapest for the Tournament Player' (pub 1992) by Tseitlin and Glaskov. Nothing. A more modern book might have it tucked away in a note.

But I did meet again in that book, Unenian - Nadanian, Erevan, 1989 which I have marked as good and the authors call 'brilliant.' so Thank You for that. It is not on here I'll get around to submitting it. BTW see Ashot Nadanian (kibitz #5) Nadanian wrote on chessville 'The Soul of the Budapest Gambit' but that link takes you to a gambling site.

<...snip...>>

Thank you, Geoff. And I'm glad you were rewarded (by rediscovering a good game) for your efforts.

  Sally Simpson: Hi David,

Last night at the club whilst waiting for my cubs tp finish a match I went through 'The Budapest Defence' by Bogdan Lalic (pub 1998) lots of references but no McCarthy. My USA contact has also drawn a blank but they are still looking.

That reminds me. Unenian - Nadanian, Erevan, 1989. I'll sub it later today.

Mar-19-24  FM David H. Levin: Update on the game-score quest in which John played the Budapest:

Today I was able to confirm that it did not appear in any of the mid-1994 through 1998 issues of <Atlantic Chess News>. That leaves the issues from 1992 through early 1994, which would fully cover Dave Burris's editorship.
