GrahamClayton: The only game in the database is a surprise victory over a top GM - does anyone have any more information on Stanley Davis or other game scores?

perfidious: <GrahamClayton> Just looked up our player on the USCF website and couldn't find him listed there. It's odd, considering that inter alia they listed a friend who died 25 years ago and last played in 1985 as active till I recently notified them.

Phony Benoni: The win was a freak, one of those miracles that happen now and then to the average player. Davis was rated around 1750-1800, but had his One Shining Moment at exactly the right time.
Jul-27-22  ghost5: Davis listed his rating as 1621 in his annotation of his first-round game against Fedorowicz for <Chess Life>. The Dec 1980 issue describes Davis as "local," so presumably Georgia, if not Atlanta. Of course Fedorowicz recovered to share first with Gheorghiu, so I'm sure that lessened the pain.
