May-25-13  andrewjsacks: In the 1960's he ran Troy's Chess Shoppe in Torrance, in Southern California, located in one of the first large shopping complexes we have come to call "malls." I believe Allan is the correct spelling of his first name.
May-25-13  andrewjsacks: He played 5-minute chess day in and day out, at various locations, and pipe smoking was his signature.
Feb-23-14  wrap99: I remember his Chess Shoppe from the 1970s -- I don't know how long it lasted.

I do remember him playing a lot of 5-minute.

An extremely big guy.

May-27-18  Runyonm: A fine man was Allan. I true lover of our game

I always liked watching him play 5-minute in the back of the chess shop. He played all comers ! I enjoyed him playing guys like Browne, Blackstone etc.

May-27-18  Granny O Doul: I guess I had one of the chess sets he sold. I remember USCF pushing "the Troy Line" in the 1970s "in magnificent rosewood or ebony and whitewood".
