GrahamClayton: 1932 New York state champion.
Sep-20-16  Granny O Doul: He played in a US Amateur Team tourney as late as '85 or '86. One-time CL editor Fairfield Hoban was one teammate and I forget who else. But a mature bunch they were.
Jul-27-25  Granny O Doul: It comes back to me that Arthur Bisguier led the team, the "Knights of Yore" but that he left (per his mates, in disgust with them) with a round still to play. They did have an alternate on hand, but without Bisguier, our balanced team was a strong favorite and did in fact prevail.

It also comes to me that I am now older than Bisquier was then but I take heart from the fact that memories seem to be returning rather than fleeing.

perfidious: I must confess to being unfamiliar with this player, but winning a New York title was no mean feat, whatever the date.

My first two USATE events were played in 1985 and 1986, but I never met this gentleman. While I do not recall at which of the nine (1985-93) it took place, I was once introduced to Mr Hoban.

On the numerous occasions on which I met Art Bisguier, from 1974 to 1992, I do not recall him reacting with disgust to anything. He always came across as a decent man with a touch of bonhomie, even as one of the strongest players in the country facing a rail-thin kid in a simul who was then all of 4-10.
