Kibitzer's Corner
Aug-19-13  optimal play: <<Mr. T. Ryan, although an Englishman, is of the colonial school of chess.

He was the winner of the first prize at the late Darlinghurst tournament, and is, perhaps deservedly, regarded as the strongest player in the New South Wales team.

The characteristic of his general play, like his disposition, is that of extreme immobility.

Without choking up his own men, he plays an exceedingly cautious and waiting game, rarely commits and oversight, and when he gets an attack pursues his opponent with relentless ferocity to the bitter end.>
