perfidious: In my acquaintance with Adrian, he was a creative player who was not content to follow book lines for their own sake and would often strike out on his own.

Believe he was originally from southern California, but we first met in the 1981 New Hampshire Open, a game which he won. We became friendly after my move to Boston the following spring, though by then he was playing less.

Last I knew, in the late 1990s, he emigrated to England. Nice guy and I have only good memories of time spent in his company.

Stonehenge: "I grew up playing chess on Santa Monica Beach, on the boardwalk near the pier. Where Najdorf took on all comers (during the ’66 Piatagorsky Cup), Walter Browne hustled, and a vast assortment of madmen, surfers, retired wrestlers and , yes, even serious chess players, spent long afternoons blaming their blunders on bikinis.

I might also mention the time way back in 1979 I ended up near 75th and Broadway in Manhattan at one in the morning watching GM Roman Dzindzihashvili giving super-strong IM Norman Weinstein 1 to 5 minute odds at blitz, all the time downing shots and gazing off in the distance .. well, at least as far as the waitress .."

perfidious: <Stonehenge>: In the photo at the top of your link, from Harvard Square, the player on the right is Murray Turnbull, someone very well known to all of us who played in Boston back then.

Have not visited Harvard Square in over a decade, so have no idea whether Murray is still at it.
