DETROIT CHESS CLUB
United States of America

[what is this?]

On July 24, 1701, the French explorer Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac, along with more than a hundred other settlers, began constructing a small fort on the north bank of the Detroit River. Cadillac would later name the settlement Fort Pontchartrain du Dtroit.(1)

Since then, Detroit has attracted many people passionate about chess and numerous chess clubs have sprung up over the years.

Around 1881, the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA), one of the largest and most significant art collections in the United States, was the new residence of the Detroit Chess Club. Now sometimes called the Motor City Chess Club, its numbers have grown appreciably.

The DIA is located on 5200 Woodward Ave across the street from the main library. All are welcome to come and play. They usually meet on Friday, but suggest that you check their website to make sure they are convening. (2)

Check It Out: <Detroit Chess Club> has been the main page Player of the day for 3 or 4 days in a row. It feels like an unsettling metaphor for the state of CG affairs. Come back, CG!
