Feb-23-23  Aminda: With all due respect, why are Mr Tradardi on CG? For losing a simul game to Karpov? There must be a better reason?

perfidious: Not sure what you mean; Tradardi faced other players of international standard.

fredthebear: There's an old Russian proverb: "Where you are born, it’s where you are useful. (Где родился, там и пригодился.)"
Feb-24-23  Aminda: Hello Perfidious,
Thanks for your question.
I was just unsure of the reasons, or maybe criteria, to have a page on CG for a player. In this case he did play against some titled players but that does happen quite often in open tournaments in Europe. And his overall success rate is quite low, it seems to me, in those tournaments (3 wins, 13 losses, in 4 opens, and the simul against Karpov). Again, nothing against Mr Tracardi, just wondering how CG selects the players for its pages.
Feb-24-23  Aminda: I would add that his Fide player card has very limited informations. He seems to have achieved a rating of 1555 in rapid games. No other ratings available.

Williebob: <Aminda>, though I am not sure if there is a firm criteria used by CG to allow the creation of player pages, it would seem harmless to allow in such cases where lesser players bump into established titled players in classical tournaments. In this player's case, I see some short draws against titled players (a FM, and IM and even GM Ivan Farago)

Another way to look at it: Should "NN" proliferate through the database just for the sake of a certain appearance, and especially if the same "NN" has played several serious games against strong opposition (win lose or draw)?

Feb-24-23  stone free or die: <Williebob> - whenever you add Swiss tournaments to a database you get this effect due to the early round pairing rules.

Usually, I suggest keeping all the games of the leaders (loosely defined by, let's say, the prize money awards?). That means all their opponents get into the database.

With the cost of storage these days, not too much of an issue (one could even keep all the games available, at the cost of quality).

The real issues are proper filters, for searching quality games, tracking opening theory, and especially user searches.

.

Feb-24-23  Aminda: Thank you both for your answers. Helps me understand better. Have a nice week-end!

Just to make it explicit...

The reason for this is not only to have all the leader's games, but to be able to accurately reconstruct the xtab (cross table) from their games too.
