Jan-30-19  zanzibar: FIDE card gives <Prithu Gupta>, as does here:

https://chessbase.in/news/Prithu_Gu...

.

Jan-31-19  jith1207: Yes, Gupta is a family surname.
Aug-25-19  Caissanist: With Gupta having gained the GM title, India has now become one of five countries to have 64 GMs.
Dec-09-19  diagonal: <Indian chess got its 64th Grandmaster. A very symbolic number as the chess board is made up of 64 squares. In the 1980s, a genius named Vishy Anand arrived on the chess scene and changed the landscape of Indian chess forever. Anand became a GM in 1987 and 32 years later Prithu Gupta from Delhi became the 64th GM on 18th of July 2019. Who are these grandmasters of Indian chess?

...

We acquaint you with all the GMs of Indian chess along with their photographs and the year in which they became GMs. Also we have collected some important statistics related to the grandmasters in Indian chess, which show us what needs to be done to make Indian chess even better>:

Report by Sagar Shah: https://chessbase.in/news/Grandmast... (as mentioned, with a portrait picture of all Indian Chess Grandmasters so far)

Footnote: FIDE officially gives the GM title for Anand in the year 1988: https://ratings.fide.com/card.phtml..., Vishy fulfilled the requirements already at the end of 1987 after winning the closed tournament in Coimbatore together with Gennadi Zaichik (14 players, incl. Geller, Vasiukov, Csom), thus the linked article above states the year 1987.
