Kibitzer's Corner
Apr-14-04  ConLaMismaMano: Hellsten recently obtained his final GM norm in a very interesting tournament played in Argentina. Here is the site with all the games: http://www.utopiasdepinamar.com.ar/...
Mar-22-05  ConLaMismaMano: Congratulations to GM Hellsten (2554) for winning the 2005 Entel Cup with an impressive 10/12!
Mar-23-05  Ziggurat: Wow! Well done Johan!
Apr-11-05  EmperorAtahualpa: This guy must be quite something! Never heard of him though.
Apr-11-05  Ziggurat: Johan is now the third rated Swedish player (ELO 2554) after Ulf Andersson and Evgenij Agrest. He is born 1975. He was always one of the top players in his age group, as I remember it from national school competitions in the 1980s. (I'm one year older than him and sometimes we played in the same tournaments.)
Jul-13-06  siggemannen: Congratulations to Johan Hellsten for winning the Swedish Championship in great style +8=4-0 with one bye. This performance might get him close to 2600.

chancho: His three books on strategy: <opening, middlegame, and endgame> with all the many examples, games, and quizzes, may prove to be a very efficient method to improving a student's overall strategic sense.

Fusilli: I strongly recommend his video series on chess.com called <Every pawn structure explained>.

Each pawn structure has a 20-minute video where the GM explains the main ideas for each side, then gives you examples of a <dream position> for each side, and then illustrates with model games for each side.

Then there is a challenge section where you go through five puzzles. Not single-move puzzles, but move + ideas puzzles that take a few moves each. Sometimes you win, sometimes you simply make good positional moves to obtain an advantage.

Great stuff.
