May-11-05  aw1988: Who is B Stein?

WannaBe: Stein should meet Beer & Ale.
May-11-05  aw1988: OK, I admit I have participated a tad in the pun run (no rhyme intentional), but this is a serious question. Is he related to Leonid Stein..?
May-12-05  sneaky pete: <aw1988> Bernd Stein, a German master, born in 1955. Most likely unrelated, Stein (Stone) is a common name. The 1959 game against Spassky was of course played by Leonid and the 1979 game against Balshan probably by yet another Stein from Israel. The other games seem bona fide: the 1982 game against Hort is from the Bundesliga (German club competition) and the 1983 Plovdiv game against Geller from a European team championship, where Stein represented the FRG.
May-12-05  Chris00nj: So he's not Ben Stein?
Dec-15-05  sneaky pete: He is not, who is Ben Stein anyway? He may however be Bernd Stein as well as Bernd Stein.
Jul-12-14  dernier thylacine: Bernd Stein proposed often to Black to play the intersting and lively two knights defence, but the global result was not very more pleasant for him than to receive a sharpen stone in the face. Poor Bernd!
