Robert Gijsbertus (Rob) Hartoch was born in Amsterdam. He and Jorn Sloth were co-winners of the 1963-64 European Junior Championship. In 1965, he finished second to Bojan Kurajica at the World Junior Championship, ahead of Robert Huebner and Vladimir Tukmakov. FIDE awarded him the International Master title in 1971.

  DrNyet: Hartoch is mentioned numerous times in one of my favorite books by one of my favorite writers, Hans Ree’s My Chess, including in the section on a beloved hang out, Di Kring, where he supposedly lost a tooth in a fight involving a woman.
Nov-20-21  Caissanist: Chess.com acquired all the old Chessvibes content, the obituary is now here: https://www.chess.com/news/view/in-... . According to the obit, he was in poor health (diabetes) for many years before his death, and his many draws were partly a consequence of that.
