Dec-21-17  Chess Is More: Any relation to Sam Sloan, I wonder?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Dec-21-17  zanzibar: <Chess Is More> well, a quick inquiry on the internet yields

<Dr. Helen Marjorie Sloan is survived by her two sons, Samuel Howard Sloan and Creighton Wesley Sloan, and by ten grand-children, Peter, Mary, Shamema, Cassel, Armanda, Michael, Jessica, George, Anusha and Sandra Sloan. Her ex-husband and her four brothers and one sister all pre-deceased her.>

and this...

< Leroy B. Sloan had two children, Samuel H. Sloan and Creighton Welsey Sloan, and nine grandchildren (including four grandchildren born after he died).>

[From obvious sources]

Still not a definitive answer to "any relation", but what do you want for the price of omission?

Dec-21-17  Chess Is More: Thank you, <zanzibar>. No close relation then. Of course as you say, not a definitive answer, but unlikely.
Dec-21-17  zanzibar: <Chess Is More> yes. There are some members who actually do full-blown genealogies, who might pursue this further (or farther?).

But not me. Cheers.

perfidious: Got to play <this> Sloan in an event at Newton, Mass, in summer 1982--which was not a US Open, unlike all the games listed for this player to date.

Vastly amusing how the software bleeped out <zed>'s post after or; those tender sensibilities of others must needs be protected at all costs, as his use of 'farther' very clearly has some sort of intent. (rolls eyes)

Dec-21-17  Chess Is More: <perfidious> Perhaps farting is not allowed here :=

I just noticed that in one of Sloan's four games in the cee-gee database (against Gurevich), he resigned after only thirteen moves. A peculiar game. He messed up, but could have played on.

In his loss against Nick Adams (who I have a vague recollection of) he played much better even though he lost that one too.
