Kibitzer's Corner
Jul-12-16  zanzibar: M Siero = <Marcelino Siero>

He originally was located in Havana, and likely played in a Quintangular won by Planas as report in <NY Times 1929.01.06 p192>.

I would guess him very young, say dob ~1910

Siero next shows up in Havana again, in the <1e Capablanca Memorial (1962)>. I.A. Horwitz published his game against Spassky in <NY Times 1962.06.21 p28>.

(See first link with more reports from this tournament, including Marcelino ref)

It appears that he left Cuba that year, to relocate in Long Beach, south California, as reported in <LA Times 1967.10.9 p28 and also 10.15 p M6> article about Siero winning an amateur tournament.

Kashdan mentions him again (with Marcellino) in <LA Times 1970.11.28 p D7>.

The final hit I have is a nice position and set of game moves between Siero--Vera with the heading "Cuban Championship":

from Baltimore Sun 1983.07.31 p T7

Looking up the position in MillBase shows the game is from a different Siero:

<Sieiro Gonzalez, Luis 2405 -- Vera Gonzalez-Quevedo, Reynaldo 2420 0-1 (32) B87 1983
Sagua: Sagua (1)>

Sep-20-16  Octavia: Siero won against Capablanca in 1936 in a simul. 20 days later he lost to C in another simul!
