May-28-14  Fiona Macleod: A German soldier who died in 1915 on the Eastern Front?

He must have been old at that time.

His earliest game here was in 1864. Assuming he was just, say, 10 years old when the game was played, in 1915 he would have been 61 years old already.

WannaBe: Good thing we made it clear that Russia was the Eastern Front, to the Russians, it was the Western Front. :-)
May-28-14  whiteshark: The <Barmen 1905 tournament book> mentionend two Molls from Barmen in the directory:

F. Moll sen, industrialist, Albertstr. 21/3 in Barmen

F. Moll jun, merchant, Albertstr. 21/3 in Barmen

MissScarlett: <<MissS> ChessBase gives Moll's birth year as 1878: https://players.chessbase.com/en/pl...

However, other evidence suggests that Kurt Moll was the twin brother of (Georg) Walter Moll (born June 10, 1876; there is a birth record for a 'Ludwig Kurt Moll' born the same day at the same place to the same parents):

https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walte...

They appear to have attended university together at the same time: https://www.digitale-sammlungen.de/...> Biographer Bistro (kibitz #29502)

Aug-29-24  WilhelmThe2nd: <MissS>

It appears that the <Ludwig Kurt Moll> born June 10, 1876 in Breslau was interned in London during WW2 as an 'Enemy Alien'. So he cannot be the chessplayer Kurt Moll.

However, there is record of a <Richard Kurt Moll> born in Heidersdorf, kreis Falkenberg (now Gościejowice, Poland) on Aug. 14, 1882. This matches up with the death record of <Richard Kurt Moll> of the Fusilier-Regiment Nr. 33 on Nov. 14, 1915. He was the son of Oskar & Minna (née Baier) Moll of Heidersdorf. He had married Eleonore Salomons (1875-1945) on Apr. 25, 1910 in Berlin. (His marriage record gives the above date and place of birth as well as his parents' names. His death record gives his age as 33, the same birth place and the same names for his parents and spouse.)
