Kibitzer's Corner
Sep-24-17  cro777: In the first round of the 2017 Isle of Man International Masters, Zaki Harari (2027) drew with GM Maxim Rodshtein (2695).

"Zaki Harari was the improbable hero of the day from a British/American point of view (he's an American who is chess-registered as English). He is rated 2027 and aged 69 (his 70th birthday is only a few days away) and he managed to draw against Maxim Rodhstein (2695) of Israel, who is also 42 years younger than him.

I say "managed to draw" - it could so easily have been a win as he outplayed Maxim with a very bit of tactical play and was on the brink of victory when he baled out for the draw. The win was there, waiting to be found, and not too hard to find either." (Chess.com Round 1 Report)

Sep-24-17  andrewjsacks: Mr. Harari was an active player in the Los Angeles area in the 1960s and perhaps beyond, and although his rating was only high Expert or low Master, he was a dangerous opponent for higher rated players and took many points from them.
Jun-26-18  wrap99: I met him in the late 1970s, he was a poker player and I think options trader. Ran into him again in San Francisco in the mid 1980s. Glad he is still around and doing well.
Jul-21-19  F74life: He is my grandmother's first cousin
