May-25-16  luftforlife: Here is a link to an article by Baldru Pálmason, published in Morgunblaðið on October 21, 1978 at page 28, entitled "Olympíuskákmót í hálfa öld," that outlines Jón Guðmundsson's participation in the men's chess Olympiads held at Hamburg 1930, Stockholm 1937, and Buenos Aires 1939:

As Pálmason mentions, Jón Guðmundsson played especially well in the Buenos Aires 1939 men's chess Olympiad, where he finished with a score of 11.0/14.0: three losses in the August qualifiers, but a perfect record of ten-out-of-ten in the September finals in Group B: http://www.olimpbase.org/1939/1939i....

According to Wojciech Bartelski, Jón Guðmundsson won the third-board prize in Group B for best individual results in Copa Argentina (the official name for the Group-B finals):
