Kibitzer's Corner
Feb-16-06  Appaz: Congratulations goes to Atle Grønn for his final IM-norm in Aeroflot Open (2006)!

This means he no longer can claim to be Norway's strongest titleless player, but this seems like a sacrifice well worth it.

Feb-17-06  Appaz: Congratulations put on hold!

He needs a forth norm, since one of his norms was achieved in just 7 games. So he has only played 25 games for his 3 norms, while 27 games are needed.

Aug-02-09  myschkin: . . .

IM Atle Groenn (born 1971) from Norway :)

Jul-02-13  waustad: He's tied for the lead in the Norwegian Championship now after 4 rounds. Tomorrow he gets a serious test since he'll be playing Jon Ludvig Hammer.
Jul-02-13  waustad: Today he lost to Hammer in an interesting 1.) d4 d6 game that quickly got into territory I hadn't seen before.
Sep-30-14  Beholder: One interesting bit of trivia about this guy is that he reads and writes in Russian better than 90% of ethnic Russians.

Probably speaks as well, though I can't attest to that personally.

Sep-30-14  Beholder: His personal Wiki page http://no.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atle_G... (in Norwegian)
Sep-30-14  Beholder: And (doh!) he's actually a Professor of Russian Linguistics at the Oslo University. Imagine that.

Sep-30-14  Appaz: Excellent commentator during live chess broadcasts, too. Excellent Plus, I would actually say.

Tabanus: His book "Sjakken og livet!" is just published. I've not read it yet, but am sure it's good and deserves to be transl. to English.
