  GrahamClayton: Kaplan spent time studying in the United States, and was a member of the University of Maryland-Baltimore County team that won the 2009 Pan-Am Intercollegiate Team Chess Championship and President's Cup, and finished =2nd at the 2012 Pan-Am Intercollegiate Team Chess Championship.
