Aug-03-15  thomastonk: Beharry? No! According to Jacques Mieses, who commented the loss against Hartlaub, this is Dr Benary from Munich. I have two unconfirmed "sources" for forenames: 'Victor' states one, 'Walter' states the other one.

The game was played in the Hauptturnier A of a congress of the Bavarian Chess Association. I think the forename should be no real problem.

offramp: His theory was that every game ended as either 1 or 0. It's called Benary Theory.

  perfidious: Ah, lovely.
Dec-05-23  Alan McGowan: Black was Dr Walter Benary, not Victor.

Victor Benary, Walter's father, was a banker in Berlin; he died 1912 (DSZ 1912, p313).

Several references can be found that show Walter in Munich, including the Deutsche Schachblätter 1911 index, and a long letter that ended on p286 with 'Walter Benary.'

According to the GENI family history website, Walter Hermann Benary was born 12 August 1877, in Berlin. No death date is given.
