GrahamClayton: I think this is the George Mayer who finished 8th in the Hauptturnier A tournament at Hamburg in 1910.
Nov-05-18  whiteshark: The 1902 Hannover tournament book only says
<G. Mayer> from Temesvar (Timișoara in English), Austro-Hungarian Monarchy at that time.
Nov-05-18  Jean Defuse: ...

At Hamburg Haupttunier (1910) Di Felice has 'Georg Maier', but he was born in 1903...

see: http://www.edochess.ca/players/p134...

Perhaps are Lajos Mayer & player Meyer (M Gladig vs Meyer, 1910) the same person namely G. Mayer?!

...

Jun-10-20  RES64: A player G. Mayer (Hun) was in the 1st correspondance international tournament organized by the french newspaper Le Monde Illustrè, in the years 1887-89. The name of this player could be Gyorgy or George or Gyula. Does anybody know the name?

Stonehenge: https://www.iccf.com/country?countr... has Dr. György Mayer.
Feb-21-21  Jean Defuse: ...

According to Gedeon Barcza (Magyar Sakktortenet Vol. 3) Gyorgy Mayer played in the Temesvar Tournament 1912 (and not as ChessBase claims the Austrian chess composer Roman Mayer)

...

Feb-20-22  Alan McGowan: Further to comments by <Jean Defuse>, that same volume has some personal information on p170, which appears to show that on 24 October 1929 he was celebrating his 68th birthday. States he was a doctor of law.

Ancestry records show a baptism on 1 November 1861 at Mozsdos, Somogy, Hungary, which might be him

The book also has a section showing Hungarians at foreign events (pp 204-209).

It shows that Gyorgy Mayer played at
Munich 1900 (p204)
Hanover 1902 (p205)
Nuremberg 1906 (p206)
Hamburg 1910 (p208)

Information sent yesterday to adochess.ca as Rod is also trying to deal with common names and the problems they raise.
