keypusher: Her opening against Keuscher was just suicidal.

Phony Benoni: You have to remember that Sylvia had been dead for over 25 years at the time of this game, meaning she was out of practice. And you know what Adolf Anderssen had to say about that: "It is impossible to keep one's skill in a bell jar, like a jewel."
Feb-26-13  whiteshark: "Independent, self-possessed M.S. Ageless. Birdwatching before breakfast. What does she find for herself? <Chess games.> My old admiration for the strong, if Lesbian, woman. The relief of limitation as a price for balance and surety."

  perfidious: 'Sylvia's mother said....'

Truer words were never spoken than those by the old master Anderssen, regarding skill.

SteinitzLives: She was better off dead, to be free of Ted.
Even coming back to play this game so many years after her passing, she reveals her tormented soul.
Sep-05-14  torrefan: This poem by her belongs here:

<Female Author

by Sylvia Plath

All day she plays at chess with the bones of the world: Favored (while suddenly the rains begin
Beyond the window) she lies on cushions curled
And nibbles an occasional bonbon of sin.

Prim, pink-breasted, feminine, she nurses
Chocolate fancies in rose-papered rooms
Where polished higboys whisper creaking curses
And hothouse roses shed immortal blooms.

The garnets on her fingers twinkle quick
And blood reflects across the manuscript;
She muses on the odor, sweet and sick,
Of festering gardenias in a crypt,

And lost in subtle metaphor, retreats
From gray child faces crying in the streets.>

Sep-05-14  ljfyffe: Enough, already! You sylvia-tongued devils!
Sep-05-14  ljfyffe: <muses on the odor, sweet and sick....>Can't beat this bunch of cunning linguists, so I have decided to join in.(LOL).
