BishopBerkeley: Alex Setzepfandt is the lad on the right in this photo (though a bit less of a lad in 2005 than in 1999):

Though I haven't seen him at the Mechanics Institute Chess Club in awhile, he certainly was a familiar face some time back.

He has an FIDE rating of 2170:

I mention this only because I believe the selection of games we have for him are hardly representative of his Chessplaying skill. This is no ones fault, I imagine. It's just what can happen when you don't have many games for the database.

But, for what it's worth, he is regarded as a strong player at America's oldest continuously functioning Chess Club, and one with an excellent history of strong players. Indeed, the Mechanics Institute Library (which I like to think of as an extension of the Chess Club rather than vice versa) features the earlier photo on their main webpage:

Eric Schiller: Alex is indeed very talented. I coached him for over a year, and he worked harder than anyone I've trained. He'd get up before school to do tactics problems, and worked hard in all his games. But he is busy with other things these days, and doesn't play as often as he has in the past. I'll see if I can add some games from the CalChess collection, to make it more representative.

GrahamClayton: Setzepfandt graduated from the University of California in 2011 with a BA, and then received a JD from Yale Law School in 2015. He has then practiced as a litigation lawyer - one of many talented US players who saw a legal career as more stable and financially rewarding than a chess career :-)
