  FSR: He used to be a prominent organizer, as Graham Clayton noted. Haven't heard mention of him for a long time.
Aug-28-23  Granny O Doul: I associate him with "Put the Fun Back into Chess" tournaments (which I never played in) and the National Open (which I did enter several times). There too though the "fun" was a bit much, such as the half hour-long awarding of special prizes before the last round. It reminded me of that Mary Tyler Moore episode where Lou gets into the bar business and, realizing that he lacks "the gift of gab", tries other ways to create bonhomie, such as strongarming all the customers into a singalong of "Alexander's Ragtime Band".
