Mar-30-09  Ed Trice: <PinnedPiece: But show some evenhandedness while you're at it.>

OK, let's say this is post #2, and let's call your reply to this post #1. Therefore your previous post that I am replying to is post #3.

Which posts should I remove to be more evenhanded?

Apr-01-09  PinnedPiece: <ET> Do you have a public statement on where you fit into the M61MG book's publication?

e.g. possible statements (with elaboration omitted):

1. I had nothing to do with it and didn't believe it until I saw it for sale on eBay in December, 2007.

2. I was contacted in August 2007 by Fischer/Fischer's people to find a publisher, which I did. I had no part paying for it, in correcting printer's galleys, or distributing the book, however.

3. In early Fall, 2007, I was sent (in parts) a completed manuscript which I found a printer for, using funds from [source] for progressive payments to the print house....

4. I received sets of disorganized, rough notes over a long period of time, which I edited, created illustrations for, got approval on, arranged publication for ....

5. In March, 2007, I was asked to provide a reasonable rewrite of M60MG (expanded to over 700 pp) from Bobby Fischer himself, based on ideas he provided in one way or another...

6. You know what the next scenarios are, that have been suggested. Obviously none of those would be your statement....

You have hinted at other scenarios:

<I said maybe [Labate] was pissed off because MAYBE he paid to have them printed and MAYBE my $5,000 payment to him would have covered at least part of his costs and MAYBE when the eBay girl stopped the auction and threatened to destroy the books MAYBE that was the real reason Labate was pissed off.>

<All of the work done on that book took place in Iceland. There were at least 3 editors working on it full time with an occasional 4th or 5th person helping out. Only first names were used, and sometimes more than one person was "sharing" a name, when it was obvious the same person was not "responding".>

<ET> you might prefer to delete this (which is why I'm posting this here), but could you post a link anyway to a statement of your involvement, should one exist?

Apr-01-09  Ed Trice: I try to minimize any postings made on this day, being April 1 and all that.
Apr-04-09  PinnedPiece: Tell you what, <JB>, whether innocent of all charges--or guilty of more than you could possibly know---I doubt I could keep posting here at all, in such circumstances.

This forum is not meant to provide a good means of defending oneself against gang justice. The best <ET> can hope to do is occasionally post links to another site. Did you notice that the M61MG apologist's site has folded? I was hoping it would continue to put the pieces together but it is gone, gone.

Wonder if <ET> can tell us why.

This controversy, I would bet, isn't helping Ed in the Gothic Chess world, either.

Apr-05-09  Ed Trice: I was getting my place down the seashore ready for summer.
Apr-05-09  Ed Trice: By the way, in case nobody noticed, that other user was named Jim.Bartle with a "dot" between the name. He had posted a whopping 3 times to chessgames.
Apr-05-09  Ed Trice: <PinnedPiece> There was a blog somewhere, I think that is what you are talking about? I have no idea why it is gone.

I don't think you understand the concept of "there's no such thing as bad press" PinnedPiece. The vast majority of people forget the reason they first hear of something, especially when they come to visit your own website (in this case, Gothic Chess.)

As a result of all of these posting, there have been a spike in sales of Gothic Vortex. There's no other explanation for it. No additional advertising is being spent, no marketing campain is active.

I thank everyone who is helping.

Apr-13-09  PinnedPiece: <Ed Trice: By the way, in case nobody noticed, that other user was named Jim.Bartle with a "dot" between the name. He had posted a whopping 3 times to chessgames.>

CG.COM deleted the account of Jim.Bartle and several other of the same persons accounts. We all now have to be very vigilant of copy catters. Those of us with pictures next to our names have a little insurance coverage, however.

HeMateMe: Wasn't Ed Trice part of that "new broom" board that was elected to the US Chess Federation, about three years ago? There were four people: Polagr, her husband, the Vietnamese guy, maybe Ed Trice, and I can't remember the name of the other one.

HeMateMe: Well, when Polgar and her husband Paul Truong were running for the Board, there was this picture posted somewhere, maybe on her website, that showed Polgar, Truong and two others photo-shopped to appear as the Fantastic Four. I thought maybe it was a whole suite of four candidates, something along those lines.
Apr-27-13  Conrad93: I just saw a game of his. Another overrated 2200+ it seems.
Apr-27-13  DoctorD: There is no Edward Trice with a rating above 1700 in the USCF MSA, nor has he ever been a USCF Board member, as near as I can tell. I think the 2200 was based on a specious claim. But that was several years ago, so my memory could be faulty.
Jun-07-15  siggemannen: what happened with gothic chess variant? it seemed interesting...
Dec-08-16  Everett: Wonder if anyone is going to put together a book of all these characters , debates, mudslinging, etc., that have gone on over the years here.

Likely not much of a market for it.

keypusher: <offramp> Somewhere I saw a list of great imaginary books. (The only one I can remember, unfortunately, is Sherlock Holmes' monograph on distinguishing between different types of cigar ash.) <USER NOT FOUND> is a worthy addition to that list.
Dec-09-16  Everett: Jorge Luis borges had some great reviews of imaginary books in his Ficciones compilation. Some brilliant stuff.

There may not be an actual monograph, but in "The Boscombe Valley Mystery" Holmes says he has written a monograph on the different types of cigar ash.

Mar-21-17  Petrosianic: <keypusher>: <Somewhere I saw a list of great imaginary books.>

For years Phil Harris had a running joke about imaginary songs he'd written or performed. Things like "Mother Feeds the Baby Garlic So She Can Find Him in the Dark", "We Don't Know Where Mom Is, But We've Got Pop On Ice", or "I Call My Dog Ginger Because She Always Snaps at Me".

Mar-21-17  Petrosianic: Oh yes, and the all-time classic "Hand me the Hammer, Honey, There's a Fly on Baby's Head."
Mar-21-17  Petrosianic: As for fictional books, one of my favorites is Tobin's Spirit Guide. I've used it often as a reference in my own book.

Holmes wrote several books and monographs. One, "Practical Handbook of Bee Culture, with Some Observations upon the Segregation of the Queen", played a role in one story.
