May-24-09  timhortons: WIM Zhang Xiaowen wins the women Asian Continental Chess Championship Chinese women dominate the event

WIM Zhang Xiaowen won the women section of the Asian Continental Chess Championship by a full point ahead of competition. WIM Zhang Xiaowen was leading through the whole event and finished with 9,0/11 without losing a single game.

To make the Chinese party full, the silver and bronze medals were taken by WGM Huang Qian with 8,0/11 and WFM Ding Yixin with 7,5/11.

Indian players had ups and downs in their performance, leading to slightly worse results than expected. WGM Meenakshi Subbaraman took fourth place after defeating compatriot WGM Mohota Nisha. She was deprived of a higher standing by IM Tania Sachdev, who defeated WGM Meenakshi Subbaraman in round 2 to finish 10th with 6,5/10. WGM Karavade Eesha was 8th with 7,0, while the Indian champion WGM Kruttika Nadig finished 31st with 5,0.

As we warned yous everal months ago, the fresh talent in Asia WFM Chardine Cheradee Camacho held strong players to spoil their performance. She had a notable win against WIM Bui Kim Le and draws against WIM Le Kieu Thien Kim, WGM Huang Qian, and WGM Nguyen Thi Thanh An to finish with 5,5 points.
