Sep-13-03  Ken MacGillivray: The mating pattern is called Boden's mate.
Sep-13-03  Giuoco Piano Man: Is Boden's mate using both bishops to mate then?
Sep-13-03  caseyclyde: It's not just a mate with 2 bishops. Boden's mate is when they are in a criss-cross pattern.
Sep-13-03  kevin86: A few more items on Boden's mate:First,it is a cross-fire attack of two bishops;second,it involves a queen sacrifice;and last,it usually occurs on the queen side against q-side castlers-here is an exception. It is an example of a useful AND artful mating combination.
Sep-13-03  dr gogusetti n rao: I am just learning. I always am! Boden's mate is great and artistic.
Mar-27-05  peanut: What do you call then a mate where a King has to avoid both attacks say a rook and a night but has no place to go. He can't even block both attacks!
Mar-27-05  Fischer of Men: <peanut> It would just be called double check and mate.
Mar-29-05  peanut: Sounds too simple. Sorry but im not buying.
Apr-02-05  Fischer of Men: Unless you mean the ♖ + ♘ mate which is called the Arabian mate.
Apr-02-05  peanut: That's it. Thanks for clearing that up.

  FSR: Janny on the Spot.
Apr-27-20  An Indianman: Good morning: first
Apr-27-20  Cheapo by the Dozen: A little non-obvious for a Monday. I liked that. :)
Apr-27-20  saturn2: White wins by 14 Qxf6+
15...gxf6 15. Bh6 mate or
15..Qf7 15. Qxf7 mate
Apr-27-20  agb2002: White has the bishop pair for a bishop and a knight.

Black threatens cxb2.

Like Boden's mate: 14.Qxf6+ gxf6 (14... Qf7 15.Qxf7#) 15.Bh6#.

Apr-27-20  little ernie: Bodes well for a geezer.
Apr-27-20  waustad: Pretty
Apr-27-20  Brenin: I spent a second or two looking how to deflect Black's Q to allow mate on f7, and then remembered that it's Queensacday. A pretty finish.
Apr-27-20  Brenin: Black walked into three sucker punches in quick succession: 6 ... Nge7 (Nd4!) allows the standard bishop sac 7 Bxf7! (Kxf7 8 Ng5+ and 9 Qxg4), 8 ... Nd4 (Ng6!) allows another (9 Nxd4 Bxd1 10 Ne6+ regains the Q), and 13 ... Bxf6 (Ng6!) invites a quick mate by Qxf6+.

  FSR: Boden's Mate, baby!
Apr-27-20  sfm: While "everything is possible", it is still hard to believe that Lajos Steiner who already was a strong master in 1922 plays into one of the most fundamental tactics in chess with 6.-,Nge7?? White, Dr. Geza Janny, is also listed as beating Emmanuel Schiffers in 10 moves after a trivial help-mate that most bare beginners wouldn't have walked into. Maybe a hypnotist?
Apr-27-20  AlicesKnight: "Beautiful but rare..." Qxf6 gives Black a choice of two mates. We all want him to take the Q...
Apr-27-20  Pedro Fernandez: Nice very easy problem, including queen sac.
Apr-27-20  takchess: Boden Monday !
Apr-27-20  mel gibson: Good beginners puzzle.
