Kibitzer's Corner
Aug-08-06  KingG: Black, in a worse position, blunders with 18...e5?. He probably then realised what he had done and offered a draw. His lower rated opponent, instead of trying to work out why someone rated over 200 points higher would be offering a draw after 18 moves, gladly accepts.

Instead, he should have looked closer, and he might have seen 19.c4! Qxd4 20.Be3, winning the queen for two minor pieces.

You should always beware of higher rated players who offer sudden draws.

Aug-08-06  DrawMachine: Poobalasingham is an Indian who I playe at a junior level, and was well matched with. He seemingly hasn't improved all that much in grading terms in the intervening decade, but he did strike me as fairly gormless and ready to take draws from higher rated opponents. Youa re right though, why would black suddenly think to ask for a draw here, unless he was in serious need of the restroom.
May-24-07  ChesterTheJester: He is thoroughly underated, his ECF grade being the equivalent of 2200. DrawMachine, you must have a v.high ELO!
May-24-07  ChesterTheJester: Also, KingG, black doesn't have to tke on d4...
May-06-08  KingG: <ChesterTheJester> You are right, he can play 19.c4 Qe6 and lose a piece to 20.d5
