Joshka: This player just drew in round 2 against Kaidanov! 2 draws in a row against 2 Gm's.
Mar-05-06  jamesmaskell: And hes just a schoolkid! According to the US Championship site he is 15, born in Boston, MA and living in San Diego so this is a hometown tournament for him. USCF rating of 2254. Fave player was Kasparov, now Topalov. Been playing since age 5. He qualified by winning the Scholastic Champion of Champions tournament last month according to a local website.

Curiously part of his pre-game superstitions involves listening to a rare live recording of "Nessum Dorma" performed by Pavarotti! Also watches Sportcentre on ESPN before games.

He is trained by IM Cyrus Lakdawala.

Mar-05-06  pazzed paun: they had a few quotes from him in the local free paper before the tournament and ,he comes across as being humble and as of yet not having fully focused intense time and energy into improving his chess.

He is underated and this tournament could be a huge leap in performance for him.

Fusilli: He seems to be very down-to-earth. See the second half of this newspaper article: http://www.sandiegoreader.com/news/...
Dec-29-10  cruiseyleemorph: Been meaning to write on here for ages. Elliott is a chess coach now on chess.com He is really helpful, funny, and explains things great. Hes currently on a few months break as hes traveling and studying I think. I have played him myself online 5 times and hes spanked me on all occations bar one where I did well but he cleaned up in the end. I also run chess.com tournaments and Elliott even accepted that the winner of each one could get a game v Elliott online. Hes (Immortal technique) on chess.com and great guy. Shame he hasnt got much plans on studying chess as he would definitely have become a GM if he gave it the time. But I think hes got right idea as it does take so much away from other things. ;)
Jan-18-12  JCTEAM10: Elliott, has coached our son for about 7 months now. Elliott is a very good teacher. He is patient, insightful, and very knowledgeable. He has helped our son greatly with his openings and tactics. Our son's rating, his confidence and his love of the game has gone up under Elliott's tutelage. We strongly recommend Elliott as a coach.
