Sep-04-12 | | pinoymaster77: Another endgame virtuoso performance by AFGM! |

Sep-04-12 | | torrefan: So it came to pass. The Philippines stares at Defeat in its face once more. Three of its youngest and ablest warriors had stopped fighting, one of them, the hero of its last battle, had fallen. Only one stood between salvation and complete annihilation: an old warrior. His position was seemingly lost. His fearsome adversary tells him: "Surrender now. There's nothing you can do anymore. Look at the situation: I am at the peak of my strength and I am not even half your age. You are already a grandfather. Even my rating towers above you by more than 200 points. It is hopeless for you now, old man. It is time to stop fighting." The old warrior answers: "This is my country you want me to give up. It is my duty as its son to give my life and my last ounce of strength for it. You are strong and now has the upperhand and are capable of achieving your aim. Bring my country down, if you will, but you can only do that over my dead body." So they fought on as the entire world watched. Summoning his last reserve of strength, deftly doing his patented Pansol-like moves, he managed to find a weakness in his powerful adversary and exploited it. The proud behemoth was slain! The Philippines was saved. Another awe-inspiring moment in this tough seed's magical run towards its inevitable final collision with Russia. |

Sep-04-12 | | Jim Bartle: I'd think an arbiter would have stopped all that talking during the game...Especially with the whole world watching. |

Sep-04-12 | | shadowleaf04: <Iskubadayb> <allan.dinglasan> Maraming Salamat sa pagbati! :) A fighting 2-2 draw vs 4th seed Hungary. Not bad at all. AFGM was the hero of the round as he squeezed a win against his younger opponent. Barbosa had his chances but lost. Here's what they say about the match: <The Philippines, seeded only 35th in the starting list, bravely resisted the 4th-seed Hungary to go home with a 2-2 tie. Wesley So and Peter Leko played a wild line of the Marshall Attack, but the game ended in a draw.
Zoltan Almasi took his team into the lead with a win against Oliver Barbosa, but the legendary Eugenio Torre, first Asian Grandmaster and record holder with 21 appearances in the Olympiads, escaped from a passive position to pull a victory against Ferenc Berkes and equalise the score.> Parang magician pala itong si AFGM, ala Harry Houdini, Cris Angel, at David Blaine! The Legend lives on. England is next. Go Team Philippines! |
|
Sep-04-12 | | spawn2: Both teams played well. The games could have gone either way. England is going to be another tough opponent. Again, I can only say one thing, Team Philippines will give them a good fight. |
|

Sep-04-12 | | pinoymaster77: Saya naman,
We are fortunate to be able to witness such chess endgame gems, coming to mind was in his GMA Cup win, he won over Kazakh ace Murtas, and also had a couple of endgame lessons in 2 games vs Indians in the last Asian Games....May we request annotation from Master Isku when he's back on this latest endgame lesson GEM! Para lang to spice it up, eh AFGM must have been thinking : 'Teka tutoy, madami yata pawns ko o...' ahehe... Baka iakyat AFGM to Board 2 mamaya, if GM Barbosa will be rested... |
|
Sep-04-12 | | epistle: EL Eugenio....wala ka talagang kupas!!!
kahit anong tingin ko tabla....<pero ikaw kasi ang naglalaro kaya hindi tabla.> |
|
Sep-04-12 | | epistle: sarap sa pakiramdam..... |
|
Sep-04-12 | | pinoymaster77: Nice to savor, iniisip ko nga i-request na i-freeze na yung standings after round 6 when PHI was 5th, pero ika nga ni vonvon some more good things in store for the team... Whoaa parehong 2722 TPR ratings nila GMs Wesley and Eugene so far : http://results.chessolympiadistanbu... http://results.chessolympiadistanbu... |
|
Sep-04-12 | | jaimenarin: mahirap makalimutan yung panalo ni Torre.masyadong complicated yung laban mula opening, middle game at end game...Only the best can withstand that fight,to think that his opponent was more than 200 rating higher than his!!..Congrats uli AFGM!! |
|
Sep-04-12 | | pinoymaster77: Tama nga si pren Lilet, wala yung ELO panakot lang yun ahehe Puede sumabay Pinoys sa Europeans, pinagkaiba lang yung chess environment... ELO Ave Opponents TPR
GM Wes 2652 2620 2722
GM Barbosa 2554 2517 2675
GM Torre 2469 2597 2722
GM Paragua 2508 2500 2658
IM Dimaks 2428 2438 2631
Eh kung yung TPR kaya nila now ang maging reflection ng current playing strength eh kaya ngang bumangga vs Russia,China,Ukraine,USA pa ahehe... |
|
Sep-04-12 | | pinoymaster77: Mangyayari na 'dream match' ng PHI vs USA, pero sa women's side muna, sana ang resulta eh parang sa recent Jones Cup.... anybody knows if WIM Perena's current 5.5/7 is enough for WGM norm, and WNM Frayna's 5/7 for WIM norm? (calling joeyj,John M,Sirs Gene & Toti) |
|
Sep-05-12 | | geniokov: If i am the coach of RP Team,i will STAY at this group:
Bd1) Wesley So
Bd2)Barbosa
Bd3) Torre
Bd4)Paragua
This remaining rounds are very important for the country and not for invidivual“s interest.Kung sa remaining rounds eh it will become hard and STILL UNCLEAR for Dimaks to get a GM Norm then he must be sacrifice in order for team to regain it“s name.Barbosa must stay even WHOEVER lost in this remaining rounds must stay!Anyway,Dimaks can get his GM norm anytime aside from Olympiad!...Just my opinion lang. |
|
Sep-05-12 | | sparkyzzv: What a game to watch sir Eugene. Congrats po! |
|
Sep-05-12 | | wordfunph: namit pa sa Iloilo's Batchoy, from chesbase..
