EUGENIO TORRE
(born Nov-04-1951, 73 years old) Philippines

[what is this?]

Eugenio Torre was born in Iloilo City, the Philippines and is the strongest Filipino chess player of his generation. He reached a peak world ranking of 20 in January 1983 and was in the world's top 100 players for most of the period from 1975 until 1992. (1) At the age of 60, he remains ranked among the top players in the Philippines.

Awarded the IM title in 1972, Torre quickly ascended the ranks, and has the distinction of being the first Asian to earn the title of International Grandmaster. He accomplished the feat at the age of 22 when he won a bronze medal on board 1 at the 21st World Chess Olympiad held in Nice, France in 1974. Torre has been a veteran of the World Chess Olympiad for four decades, playing in every Olympiad since 1970 (except for 2008), playing top board for his team in every Olympiad between 1972 and 2004 inclusive, and leading the Philippine team to 7th place at the 1988 Thessaloniki Olympiad. Altogether, he has won three individual Olympiad bronze medals. Torre also participated in most of the early Asian Team Championships, invariably playing top board and invariably winning one or two medals. He lead the team to three consecutive gold medals during the games held in 1977, 1979 and 1981, to silver in 1983, and gold again in 1986. He also won 4 consecutive individual gold medals in those years and finished with a bronze medal for both the team and himself in his last stint at the Asian Team Championships, played in Kuala Lumpur in 1993.

He beat Anatoly Karpov in Manila in 1976, one of Karpov's few losses during his championship reign. Torre qualified for the Candidates round in 1984 but lost to Zoltan Ribli. He was a friend of Robert James Fischer, playing some training games with him and acting as a member of his team during Fischer's 1992 match against Boris Spassky. Later he conducted radio interviews with Fischer on <Bombo Radyo> of the Philippines. He also established the Eugene Torre Chess Foundation and the Eugene Torre Chess Center, which aim to discover and develop hidden talents from the Philippines' provinces. He was an early coach of Wesley So.

Jun-13-14  SugarDom: THE BLAME GAME

Who's to blame for Wesley transfer of federation?

Wesley's family migrated to Canada: 20%

Wesley studying under SPICE and Susan Polgar: 20%

Wesley So himself: 10%

Jun-13-14  SugarDom: NCFP and Kangkong: 49%

The Fans: 1 %

Jun-13-14  SugarDom: <torrefan> kasalanan nga yan ng POC at NCFP. Cojuangco at Pichay.

What is 1 million kung gold medal prospect yung bata, hindi ba?

I will make my last post here forever.

Cojuangco at Pichay. >

Kasalanan nung mangkukulam. Ganito yan:

1.pinalaro nya si Wesley sa Universiade na walang paalam sa NCFP and as Fessap representative. Kasi nga di nya like ang NCFP at may plano na syang i-pull out si Wesley doon kaya panay ang tira nya kila Pitchay, etc.

Cojuangco politico, Pichay politico.

Bakit? Kasi pera nya yung ginagastos nya e. Walang makakakontra sa kanya. Di kailangang manimbang pa kung kanino. Komo pera nya, pag sinabi nya yun na.

Dito sa NCFP di pwede yun. May POC, may National Government, may publiko dahil taxpayers' money yan.

It makes him vulnerable. Hindi nya naisip yun?

Jun-14-14  gmlet888: Sir Sugar, whether you like it or not, it is FESSAP/BAP's Graham Lim vs MVP. Of course MVP is allied with POC-PSC-UAAP-NCAA-PBA. It is unfortunate that wes went with Mr. Graham's group.

This is part of his blog:
On June 28, 2012, I will be marking my second anniversary as a free man following more than seven months of imprisonment.

This is my short story…………Graham C. Lim

Manila, Philippines -- On December 7, 2009, during the hearing of a criminal case I filed against a certain person by the name of Manuel V. Pangilinan. This was the man who, instead of acting as a mediator, pulled off a coup in claiming the presidency of the fledgling Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) and kicking out the Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP) as the country’s national basketball federation. The BAP has been recognized by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) since 1936, a year in which the first BAP president, Senator Ambrosio Padilla, stood as Philippines’ team captain in the first Summer Olympic Games in Berlin, Germany.

The criminal case I filed against this person revolved around the SBP’s falsification of private documents that resulted in two sets of Minutes of Meeting on February 5, 2007 for the Unity Congress agreement of the BAP and the SBP that would name the BAP-SBP as the national governing body in basketball in the Philippines.

Jun-14-14  spawn2: Just came from The City Club Makati with GM Eugene Torre after the successful holding of JPC Father's Day Chess tourney. Our very own sheriff finished in 2nd place!

Epistle came in 4th place after Atty. Sammy Estimo.

Jun-14-14  pinoymaster77: Nice event ng ETCF on the JPC Father's Day chess tourney, and looking forward to more successful, meaningful projects.

Watch out for more!

Jun-14-14  gokusano: <SugarDom: Looks like a troll got hit by rock from the sky. He whines. hehe> Sino troll?!Grrrowlll#%@**:@#$%!!!!
Jun-14-14  spawn2: Mr. Alex Dinoy and Mr. Ferdinand Reyes were the Chief and Asst. Arbiters of the event.
Kumbaga sa Highlander, this page should be treated as a sacred ground. GM Torre has shown his support to Wes' flight. Hope it can be repaid with respect. Marami pong salamat!
Jun-14-14  gokusano: Sori bosing.
Jun-14-14  Iskubadayb: Aba, sinanwits nila Sheriff at Epi ang kaibigan kong si Sammy ha. Sino ang nagkampyon dyan, Alexhine?

ETCF event pala ito. Maraming nagagawa itong ETCF. More power.

Jun-14-14  spawn2: Master Isku,

Atty Batasin ng MWSS ang champ.
