May-22-15 | | pinoymaster77: In the NCC Semis, FM MJ Turqueza and IM Candidate Roel Abelgas Jr are the top 2 and a cinch for BOGM slot, rounding out the TOP 5 are IM Pascua, NM Docena and IM Pimentel Probably for another 12 man field, cinch to play dyan GMs Eugene, Joey,Darwin, John Paul, Oliver plus seeded IMs Paulo and Jem, Maybe slots are allotted to GMs Sadorra, and maybe even GMs Banjo, Mark and Europe-based GMs Sanchez and Salvador? In case overseas-based GM cannot make it, then the NCC Semis 3rd placer is next in line, so forth and so on http://www.ncf-phil.org/archives/20... |

May-25-15 | | pinoymaster77: Nil's post in his Leaflet Mag in FB :
Tagaytay Waits For This Year's Battle of the Grandmasters
.
The peaceful pines are silently waiting for Philippine's best of the best in chess as talks circulates that this year's Battle of the Grandmaster will be held in the same pool-side venue where last year's Asian Junior Chess Championship was held. It conflicts with the website of National Chess Federation of the Philippines which says the venue will be in Philippine Sport Commission's dining hall. But chess tournaments, like the game itself, is unpredictable and tends to change venue in the 11th hour, as what happened in the past tournaments.
Even the line up is unsure because only the top 2 winners of the semi-final rounds of the National Chess Championship are assured of a slot in the games, the rest will depend on the number of grandmasters to participate. There are possibilities that some of the previously inert grandmasters living overseas are coming home to participate in the annual chess spectacle, but all is still tentative.
What's interesting is that the officials decided to seed last year's top 5 winners and are therefore assured of a slot each. For sure, 16-year old super kid IM Paulo Sales Bersamina, GM Eugene Torre, and GM John Gomez, last year's top 3 winners, will participate. Also the 4th and 5th placers IM Jem Gacia and WIM Janelle Frayna will be in the tournament which is scheduled to open at August 20.
Last year, Arizona-based veteran grandmaster GM Rogelio Barcenilla Jr, former Asian Junior Chess Champion, came home along with Texas-based Supergrandmaster (Ino) Julio Sadorra, but they both haven't confirmed their participation as of the moment. |

May-29-15 | | pinoymaster77: Interview of lead actor Tobey Maguire and Director Ed on 'Pawn Sacrifice' movie based on Bobby Fischer's life. From the trailer, it looks like the centerpoint is the EPIC world championship match vs GM Boris Spassky. They also tried to make the movie understandable even for non chess players https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Rz... |

May-29-15 | | pinoymaster77: While in youtube there were also chess related videos, and in this link I also appreciated more Bobby's chess studies then when there still no laptops/tablets and chess engines, mano mano na basa ng chess books and take chess notes ! Also a feature on Bobby's game vs our very own Asia's First IM the late Rudy Tan Cardoso https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8S3...

Jun-02-15 | | epistle: It seems I'm qualified to play...
However, my capacity to comprehend is waning. I keep on reading this and I simply couldn't get it-- <The National Senior Chess Championship is open to Senior players aged 50 years old and above. Registration on-line was reopened and on Tuesday 9am to 5pm at the venue in order to accommodate players below the original age limit of 60 years which are now qualified to join.> Who were these--
< players below the original age limit of 60 years which are now qualified to join.>? Were these aliens who, instead of getting old, are getting younger? |
|
Jun-02-15 | | Pulo y Gata: Writerly contusion, I guess the age floor has been lowered to 50 yo, minimum. After that, the sky is the limit. |
|
Jun-02-15 | | epistle: But the minimum cannot be the limit. Only the maximum. The limit is the destination. Not the starting point. That is precisely why you say "the sky is the limit". You don't say the ground is the limit. |
|
Jun-02-15 | | pinoymaster77: Guess ko diyan if AFGM wishes to play eh may slot sya to the World Seniors, aside from the slot for the Natl Srs champ. Ka text ko Kots Erwin, ask ko sya sino sino sa tingin nya maglalaro, ikako baka Padua brotherrs, NM Sasot and other chess enthusiasts? And how about ET / Tumbaga. Pupuwede na din dyan Masters Garma Ibanez Bagy, Ray Marras, Doc Perez Pero sana naman ituloy ng NCFP na ipadala sa Italy by Nov, di tulad ng nangyari kay Natl Amateur champ Rapanot who for reasons still not known to me eh di nakalaro sa Greece. |

Jun-03-15 | | pinoymaster77: From the pics posted by Noel Morales in FB, mukhang andun Atty Estimo, Ray Marras, Cesar Caturla Nasa chess-results na pala

Jun-03-15 | | pinoymaster77: Sa recent chess team event na Tarrasch Knight Chess team event sa Guada Makati, it was a happy mix of Master, veteran NonMasters, varsity players from College and HS. Notables eh sa Bayan Muna team composed of age grouper standouts, U9 Mark Jay Bacojo tops at bd2 with 6pts. Champ San Beda was anchored by solid play by Dave PatrICK Dulay at bd2. David Elorta was perfect w/ 7ts sa bd1 but his teammates didnt fare well, while Jasper Marce was perfeect 7pts at Bd3 for UST HS team http://www.chess-results.com/tnr176... |

Jun-05-15 | | pinoymaster77: Wala pa palang chessgames site si CM Stephen Rome Pangilinan? Good to see that after staying over in Thailand during the World Schools due to bulutong, accompanied by Coach/IM Yves, he has bounced back STRONGLY in the on-going Asian Schools where he got a blitz gold and poised to take the standard gold as well. Follow his games/PGN at chess-results, a Coach shared he's had good games, and looks like he is finally regaining the form that meritted attention during a K&K event at a Cubao building penthouse, spotted na potential nya nuon by Sir Regge himself. Sana magtuloy tuloy na, sana mapadala sila ng medallists to the World Youth, to gauge where they are globally. |
