EVGENY ZANAN
(born Feb-05-1998, 27 years old) Russia (federation/nationality Israel)

[what is this?]

FIDE Master (2009); International Master (2017); Grandmaster (2020).

Evgeny Zanan made an immediate impact in his first year of internationally rated chess by coming equal first (alongside Alexey Zenzera) with 7/9 in the U12 Russian Championship of 2009 in his second rating period, following this result up soon after by winning the European U12 championship, thereby earning his title. A couple of months later he played in a strong adult field in the 2009 Chigorin Memorial, scoring 4.5/9, adding 40 points to his rating, and defeating his first IMs, Stanislav Mikheev and Arnold Zakharchenko. He also competed in the 2009 U12 World Championship held in Antalya, Turkey, scoring 6.5/11.

Zanan moved to Israel in mid-2010 scoring modestly at Haifa and in Beer-Sheva, before competing in the Israeli Open, scoring 4/9 but managing to defeat twice former-Israeli Champion IM Nathan Birnboim. Toward the end of the year, he finished up with 7/11, coming =6th in overall results, playing for the Beer-Sheva Chess Club in the Israeli U18 League. In early 2011, he finished with 7.5/11 playing for Beer-Sheva Alef in the 2011 Israeli National League, defeating IM Alexander Kaspi and achieving his first positive result against a GM by drawing with Vitali Matveyevich Golod the results in the league added another 53 points to his Elo enabling him to reach his peak rating so far of 2301. He also plays for the Beer-Sheva Chess Club in the European Club Cup.
