May-17-13 | | EvanTheTerrible: He is currently having a miserable performance in Norway Chess 2013. 1.5/8 so far with Nakamura tomorrow. I hope that he is able to come back from this. Though, the field is much stronger than him. He is more than 100 elo points behind the next player. |
May-18-13 | | John Abraham: He can take consolation in the fact that he beat Wang Hao, who beat both Anand and Carlsen |
May-18-13 | | waustad: It probably wasn't a lot of fun, but playing against a field that strong could give him a lot of information as to where he needs work if he wants to play professionally and challenge the best players. Vallejo - Pons anounced his retirement (which doesn't seem to have stopped his playing career much) after his last drubbing as the comparative weak player. We'll see what his priorities are in the future. |

May-18-13 | | waustad: In any case, he has a busy chess schedule this Summer: http://gmhammer.wordpress.com/calen... |

Laughing out loud!!! Good one! The puns on this site are bettered only by the breadth and depth of the chess (and that's a lot). |

Jun-02-13 | | waustad: Happy b'day, 23 is one of those primes of life! |
Jul-02-13 | | waustad: He's sole leader after 5 rounds in the Norwegian championship with 4.5/5. |
Jul-06-13 | | waustad: After draws on the last 2 days, he's clinched the Norwegian Championship. Congratulations on a fine result with 7/9 and a performance rating of 2658. |
Aug-17-13 | | Bureaucrat: What a great World Cup for Jon Ludvig Hammer! He is through to the third round after defeating Movsesian and Navara. Well done! Kamsky next. |
Aug-17-13
 | | HeMateMe: It will take a large hammer to stop Dark Nolan. |
Aug-17-13 | | Bureaucrat: I think Kamsky is too strong, but the short matches give some hope for the underdog. Go Hammer! |
Nov-23-13 | | Appaz: Congratulations on the World Championship! Job well done, the 9th was a gem! Now, go to Carlsen and get permission to confirm that you were the only second on-site in Chennai. The cg.com members deserves to know first because we are such nice people (sometimes). |
Dec-15-13 | | waustad: Congratulations on winning the Open section of the London Chess Classic with a 2723 performance rating. Well done. |
Dec-16-13 | | Bureaucrat: Congratulations on winning in London. Well done, Jon Ludvig! |
Jan-04-14 | | simsan: Jon Ludvig is now one game shy of adding a second straight tournament victory to his belt. http://chess-results.com/tnr108862.... Rp after 8 rounds is 2845.
This guy is on fire! |
Jan-04-14 | | Kazzak: The advantage of having been the conduit for Carlsen's WCC-prep and execution. |
Jan-04-14 | | Shams: <Kazzak> I wonder if JLH has full leave to play any and all openings prepped for Carlsen's WCC match. |
Jan-05-14
 | | Penguincw: Congratulations to Jon Ludvig Hammer for winning the Rilton Cup (2013)! His score was 7.5/9 (+6,-0,=3). He placed half a point ahead Sergey Volkov, who finished alone in second. Their individual game was drawn: J L Hammer vs S Volkov, 2014. |
Jan-05-14 | | cro777: Hammer said that his match preparation with Carlsen absolutely inflluenced his recent success. "Training with the best and for a prolonged period of time is very valuable. But sometimes it's tricky to make your training efforts shown in tournament play. I'm very happy with the way I've capitalized on the training." |
Jan-10-14 | | waustad: If Hammer, Agdestein and Carlsen are all in the kind of form we've seen recently, Norway A could be a threat at the olympiad. |
Jan-10-14 | | Refused: <waustad: If Hammer, Agdestein and Carlsen are all in the kind of form we've seen recently, Norway A could be a threat at the olympiad.> I don't think so. The gold contenders have at least two boards of 2.700+. It's tough to finish with a medal, if you play with 3 boards (who will be board 4?) and are most likely outmatched on 2 of the remaining 3 boards. Carlsen can put up a good score, no doubt about it, but I think if the Russians put up a good team Hammer and Adgestein would face Svidler/Grischuk/Karjakin, and that might be a bit too much. And on board #4 the Russians will line up another strong GM.
You can go down the list. Ukraine is also quite stacked, with guys like Korobov and Ponomariov potentially playing board 2 and 3.
The Chinese can also field a super strong team.
The Norwegian only win something, if they put forward a performance similar to the Armenian teams winning gold. Means their Top Board performing extremely well (ok, that is quite possible) and their boards 2 to 4 really over performing, with no board being out of form. |
Jan-10-14 | | waustad: I didn't say I expected a gold, since the Russians, Chinese and Armenians, among others, are probably too deep. However Agdestein and Hammer have had several 2700+ performance ratings recently so they wouldn't be pushovers. It is true that the next 2 Norwegians would be around 2500 elo and the Russians can put up an all 2700+ team. |
Jun-02-14 | | waustad: Happy b'day! It's hard to even remember being 24. |
Jan-04-15 | | waustad: Tomorrow he's on board 1 playing Aleksey Goganov in the final round of the Rilton Cup. He and Tiger Hillarp Persson are tied for the lead at +5. Persson is playing Erik Blomqvist on board 2. Both leaders will be playing black. Tomorrow's round starts at noon CET, which would be 6:00 AM EST, unless I've botched times yet again. |
Jan-06-15 | | waustad: It appears he got the hardware, a gold medal: http://www.rilton.se/picture/r9_LE/.... I don't know what they do about the cash, but Hammer and Tiger H P tied for first on points. |
