Nov-16-10 | | bartonlaos: <could somebody give a little more info about this girl?> She is competing in the Russian Women's Superfinal in Moscow (Nov 16-27). She is ranked 7th, behind Natalia Pogonina. I don't find this tournament listed on <CG>, so here's the list of players: Kosintseva Tatiana (2586)
Kosintseva Nadezhda (2576)
Kosteniuk Alexandra (2507)
Galliamova Alisa (2487)
Gunina Valentina (2479)
Pogonina Natalia (2472)
Girya Olga (2435)
Bodnaruk Anastasia (2407)
Paikidze Nazi (2401)
Matveeva Svetlana (2389)
Shadrina Tatiana (2384)
Nebolsina Vera (2377)
Chessdom's English translation has her name as <Olga Kettlebell> http://previews.chessdom.com/2010/r... , but <Olga Girya> is listed as the name on Natalia Pogonina's English website (http://pogonina.com/index.php?optio...). So this may be a mistake or a recent "name-changing" event. Photos.

 | | tamar: Olga Girya is the correct name. No marriage or name change. Olga "Kettlebell" is just an accident of automatic translations. "The kettlebell or girya (Russian: гирÑ) is a cast iron weight (resembling a cannonball with a handle) used to perform ballistic exercises that combine cardiovascular, strength and flexibility training.[1]" wikipedia |

Aug-15-11 | | twinlark: Congratulations on a good result and commiserations on losing the lead in the last round. |
|
Aug-28-11 | | cro777: This year (2011),only a loss with the white pieces in the final round stopped Olga Girya from winning the World U20 Championship in Chennai, India. Girya told that she thinks the exotic conditions in India were a factor. |

Apr-05-14 | | waustad: She's playing in the Grand Prix series in Khanty-Mansiysk next week. My guess is that she's the home team nominee and that Nafisa Muminova was Kirsan's favorite. Several stronger women are playing in the Russian league in Sochi at the same time. |
|
Apr-21-14 | | waustad: Her result in the FIDE Women Grand Prix Khanty Mansiysk, with a performance rating of 2602 should be good for an 11 game GM norm. She played 9 GMs from many different countries. Her last round draw almost took the performance below the 2600 minimum, but then she could have called it a 10 game norm. This should raise her rating to the 2470s for the first time too. She had a much better result than expected and her career seems to be on the rise. Source for info: http://chess-results.com/tnr131729.... and of course her FIDE rating card. |
|
Apr-21-14 | | joeyj: As early as R10, when she scored 6.5/10 with a PR of 2626, was already good for a GM norm! |
|
Apr-24-14 | | waustad: Chessbase gives a slightly lower performance rating, so she may have to live with the 10 game norm. http://en.chessbase.com/post/khanty... |
|
May-02-14 | | waustad: Her Diaz cartoon is not flattering: http://d1lalstwiwz2br.cloudfront.ne...
Though she does not have a classically beautiful face, that is a little harsh. |

 | | WannaBe: Looking at the picture links posted by other members, that drawing by Diaz is terrible. |
|
May-06-14 | | waustad: Perhaps she'll spend enough time in front of the mirror to learn to smile in front of a camera. I can't do it so I keep my mouth shut when anybody wants to take my picture. Many players don't have this down and show too much gum when smiling to be the ideal picture. Diaz combined this with her long face to generate an unkind caricature. She is somebody who will be photographed a lot over the years, so it's probably worth the effort to learn how to take a good smile picture. Maybe she should corner someone like media savvy like Pogonina or Karlovich and figure it out. |
|
Jul-10-14 | | waustad: She already has the norms and rating to get the IM title. Perhaps she won't bother until she is ready to apply for the full GM title. |
|
Jan-15-15 | | waustad: Her WIKI page indicates that she has the norms for a GM title, but none of the norms have been registered. She got close to the necessary 2500 elo last Summer but came a little short. The norms page on the FIDE site is not very helpful, since many people don't register their norms until they are ready to apply for a title. There is a fee involved, which explains why. |
|
Mar-18-15 | | Beholder: <waustad>, <WannaBe> I honestly think Olga is very beautiful, and I for one would prefer her type over (just as an example) the vain Pogonina any day. That said, Diaz's cartoons are always drawn in an ultra-exaggerated style, that's just his thing. I'm sure he didn't mean to offend in any way. |

Mar-18-15 | | cro777: <waustad: She is somebody who will be photographed a lot over the years, so it's probably worth the effort to learn how to take a good smile picture.> http://studentsport.ru/upload/media... The player also needs to learn and practice concentration skills. All the concentration must be filled in the thought of the upcoming game: http://sochi2015.fide.com/images/st... In the first round match Olga defeated Ekaterina Atalik from Turkey with the perfect score and advanced to the next round. |

Aug-11-15 | | ChessMan94: This page needs a photo of Olga with her beautiful smile. |
