Aug-20-10 | | twinlark: His opponent in this game that was played at the Calvia Olympiad, D Gajadin vs S Press, 2004, was on the panel and cast the deciding vote to cancel all Shaun's games from the Olympiad. As <FSR> mentioned: <Evidently the concept of "conflict of interest" is unknown to Dr. Gajadin.> |

Sep-30-19 | | cro777: Shaun Press finished second in the Oceania zonal tournament 2019 in Guam and qualified for the FIDE World Cup 2019. In Round 1 of the World Cup he was eliminated by Ding Liren. Shaun Press: "While I wasn't entirely happy with how I played (especially in Game 2), it was certainly an experience I never imagined I would have. Entering the 2019 Oceania Zonal wasn't about qualifying for the World Cup, or even earning titles, but simply to support the organisers in Guam, who made a huge effort to hold the tournament in a pretty remote location. While playing Olympiad chess for the last 20 years is something I find constantly amazing, playing here was on another level entirely. Even now that I have finished I still feel like a fish out of water, especially as I know this will never happen again." Shaun Press is a software developer and roboticist, chess FIDE master and correspondence chess player, president of the Correspondence Chess League of Australia (CCLA) and international chess arbiter. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipe... |

 | | Check It Out: I wonder, what were the "various reasons" for refusing to submit a urine sample at the 2004 World Cup? |
|
Sep-30-19 | | cro777: At the Calvia Chess Olympiad (2004), when the doctor asked Shaun Press to submit to the doping control, he asked to the doctor if there was any evidence that he had used forbidden substances. When the doctor said no, he refused because he can not be obliged to produce evidence against himself. According to Shaun, he did not know the possible sanctions at that moment. If he would have known the regulations, he first would have discussed the regulations with his teammates. https://www.doping.nl/media/kb/2655... |
