Apr-01-09  Dredge Rivers: His name is Persson? Who's his second, John Doe? :)
Oct-28-09  Moonstone: Happy Birthday Tiger!
Oct-16-10  Xeroxx: weird name
Oct-16-10  Rolfo: <weird name> A tough name it is. Tiger once beat Magnus about 5 years ago
Oct-28-12  waustad: Happy b'day Tiger!
Dec-11-12  waustad: It is a shame he never played the Dragon in the database here. Perhaps that pun would be too easy.
Dec-11-12  TheFocus: So, is he half man, half tiger?

Isn't that illegal?

Or immoral?

Dec-12-12  Cyphelium: <waustad> The reason you cannot find it is because it's a hidden dragon.
Oct-28-13  waustad: Happy birthday to the Tiger!!

  offramp: Half man, half biscuit.

Persson is just an analogue of Peterson.

Jul-25-14  ralph46: <offramp> you show your ignorance of swedish names the ending son means son off so persson means son of per and petersson means son of peter and so on if i remember right andersson and larsson are the most popular family names in sweden

Jul-25-14  parisattack: At the risk of swearing in church as it were - here are Tiger's comments on his study of the game of Go - and a little on the relationship he finds between it and chess -

offramp: Per is a Scandinavian masculine given name. It is derived from the Greek word πετρος (petros) meaning "stone" or "rock". The name is a variant of Peter, a common masculine name of the same origin...
Aug-15-14  parisattack: Whenever (as recently) I study go a few months and come back to chess, my game *seems* improved. I fancy I take a more whole-board approach to analysis, see 'moyo' and 'influence' in different areas and seem better at gauging the underlying pace of the game (relative importance of strategy and tactics). I think many of the positionally descriptive go terms might be applicable to chess.

Penguincw: Tiger Hillarp Persson is the lowest rated player in a 10-way tie for 1st at the Politiken Cup. He scored 8/10 (+7,-1,=2). Probably his best win was with black against 4th seed Ilya Smirin.
Oct-27-15  sonia91: It seems his actual name is Tigger Christopher Robin Hillarp-Persson: http://www.chess.com/news/youngest-...

offramp: Hillarp is Swedish for "eats".

So his name means "Tiger Eats Person".

Aug-27-16  11thHeaven: <offramp: Hillarp is Swedish for "eats".

That's not remotely true...

Oct-28-17  takchess: Enjoyed this former GOTD
