Vaidyanathan Ravikumar, a Commerce graduate of Madras University, was awarded the IM title in 1978 after winning the Asian Junior Championship in Tehran. He has represented India at the Olympiads in Malta (1980) and Thessaloniki (1984) and twice participated at the World Junior Championship in Austria (1978) and Norway (1979).

He has authored biographical works on Ulf Andersson, Anatoly Karpov and Jan Timman as well as works on the Caro-Kann and Benko Gambit.

  Benzol: I assume this is IM V.Ravikumar. He was a Commerce graduate of Madras university and got his IM title in 1978 by winning the Asian Junior Chess Championship in Tehran. He has also represented India in the Olympiads at Malta (1980) and Thessaloniki (1984), and twice at the World Junior Championship in Austria (1978) and Norway (1979). As an author he's written opening books on the Carokann and Benko Gambit as well as biographical works on Andersson, Karpov and Timman.

  fm avari viraf: I & Ravi Kumar played together the National 'B' Chess Championship 1975 at Kolkatta. In this Championship, I got my National 'A' Grade but young Ravi later scaled greater heights & became IM.
