Jul-06-04  rochade18: Though Vladimir Epishin is one of the strongest GMs playing in the German Bundesliga (Lübecker SV), I couldn't get any useful information about his life and achievements.
Jul-06-04  AdrianP: I believe he was one of Karpov's seconds.
Oct-13-04  OneArmedScissor: By seconds you mean what???
Oct-13-04  ughaibu: Seconds, you know(?)
Oct-13-04  poktirity: 1/60 of a minute... :D
Oct-13-04  radu stancu: <one of Karpov's seconds> - this means that he was in Karpov's team, helping him with the analysis and preparation for matches.
Oct-13-04  ughaibu: Rubbish, it means he was his second.
Oct-13-04  percyblakeney: He wasn't very minute.
Nov-23-04  acirce: Tonight I dreamt I played Epishin. I was pawn up and had some winning chances, but he regained it pretty easily. Somehow I messed up and started to be worse. All of a sudden, and I don't know how it happened, the position was illegal with pawns on the 1st rank and stuff, but he wanted to play on, and I was so confused about this that I resigned.
Nov-23-04  Willem Wallekers: You know you are spending too much time on chess when Epishin enters your dreams.
Nov-23-04  acirce: Not long ago I dreamt that I had to take over someone's game against Morozevich so that I was already piece down from the beginning. Don't remember how it ended but I can guess.
Nov-23-04  nikolaas: <<acirce>All of a sudden, and I don't know how it happened, the position was illegal with pawns on the 1st rank and stuff> I recognize that. I had something similar, with three white kings (one in check) and 1 black who was in check too. Perhaps we can give rendez-vous at the psychiater?

The "Hypercube" rapid chess tournament?! For a moment I thought they were playing on 4-D boards -- *that* could have been interesting.

Mar-07-05  dac1990: Whoa, 4-D? Chess is complicated enough as it is, what with there being more chess positions than there are atoms in the universe (10^80, approximately). Throw in another dimension, and man, are you in for it.
Mar-07-05  maoam: I'm still waiting for Klein bottle chess!

Mar-04-06  Bobak Zahmat: Vladimir Epishin is a truly great player. I saw him playing during an Open in Netherlands. He was very impressive.
Mar-10-06  Bobak Zahmat: Check his game against the Legend, Epishin vs Kasparov, 2004 a real great game!

offramp: Also part of a second's duty is to go to the board, stop the clocks and say, "Okay. I think my boy's had enough."
Mar-31-06  Bobak Zahmat: What are you talking about?
Sep-27-06  RonB52734: This evidently is a picture of Epishin: I wonder if acirce actually saw this face in his dream? :)http://www.newinchess.com/Archives/...
Jun-12-07  midknightblue: Epishin was at the HB Global a couple years ago. He is a very large man. Perhaps the worlds expert on the sicilian Kan. I am always interested in his lates Kan games. I noticed he was in an OKELLY just yesterday
Jul-11-08  whiteshark: Happy Birthday, GM Epishin!
