Sep-01-15  sydbarrett: Please tell me what you just said isn't true Mark... I don't know what last round of tourney behavior is like. I just assumed they all play to win, except Aronian who would clinch first with a draw.
Sep-01-15  sydbarrett: No matter. I broke even on both first move bets. No harm done. $1500 recouped so far. Better get some work done. Post my winning log to yall later, ha ha Destiny awaits

Calm down, it was a joke. You're not even playing in this leg, so I don't even know why you're commenting...

(bad acting, guys?! D: )

Anyway, I couldn't find anything that chess24 broadcasted, so I went to (gulp) chessdom. The only tournament where I could also find a chess-results site was the Portugal Open ('cause never trust chessdom). So, that should cover me until the 5th. There's also that computer tournament going on.

I've already put up 2 Portugal Open bets (bare with me if the closing time is wrong) and if I feel like it, maybe a TCEC game.

But seriously, where are all the smaller tournaments?!

Sep-01-15  sydbarrett: Jesus... Penguin, the pick four is good fun, but please make it a once in a blue moon thing! I don't want to take up that laborious challenge and be heartbroken again. What happpened today makes me want to quit Chessbookie, lol When I saw pick four and it's 81 choices, I said to myself, "Game on." I swear I had everything nearly perfectly set up, spending $2000 all over the place, so that there were many desirable outcomes that paid $5000, $6000, $2400, or mostly just earn $1400 and lose rather little cash. There were 2-3 choices I went light on (gotta spend less if you're going to make money after all), and my goodness, today's outcome was that one (win only $400). HAhaha

I even had "draw-draw-draw-draw" covered this time so that it would make me a little profit as well, and this coming from someone who thinks that, depending on the level of activity on it, draw bets are overrated, not to mention lazy and cowardly.

I'm only spending 15 minutes a day on this game tops from now on. I'm outta here!

Sep-01-15  sydbarrett: I still consider myself the favourite even though I sunk a few notches today. Greatness is forever for those who possess it. 14 minutes a day betting, tops, from now on. More Force, less calculation

Penguincw: < Penguin, the pick four is good fun, but please make it a once in a blue moon thing! >

Glad you enjoyed it. :) It's not really too challenging to put up (just kinda time consuming). I think the hardest part is making sure someone doesn't troll and put 1 cb on some line, but if that happens, you're not getting your money back. :)

I also considered having it return twice for the World Cup, but I'll think about it.

Looking at the actual bets, DDDD were just at 6.68, while the highest was 922.91. I wonder if someone decided to dump 1 cbs on every line...

Sep-01-15  WinKing: <Penguincw> you should try that bet(Pick 4) in the first round of a big tournament when it is nearly impossible to predict correctly. Just make sure you start it a couple of weeks prior to ensure a big pot. Just a thought.

By the way I really enjoyed the betting on the Sinquefield Cup. Didn't do that great but it was great fun.

Looking forward to your next big event 'Book'. ;)

That's a good idea. Unfortunately, pairings usually don't get released that early. :(

Glad you enjoyed the Sinquefield Cup. I enjoyed it too. :)

FSR: My experience with the Pick Four sounds extremely similar to <sydbarrett>'s. Hours of work, almost $2000 in bets, visions of $5000 and $6000 payouts on many lines - but the vast majority of my investment going down the toilet. A nightmare.
Sep-02-15  MarkFinan: Pengerz.. Can we have another P4? Maybe a P5? I lost a lot but I like the idea of the bet because there's less skill involved and it's a real gamble, which is what this game should be about.

Frederick. I'll see you in the championship leg but you'll see a completely different betor. No 5000 on 1 rounds.... I'm going to crush you like a bug, pumpkin X

Penguincw: I see many people want the Pick Four to return. Alright, it'll return. However, keep in mind that the P4 (unlike the Daily Doubles and Pick Three) has to be done manually, which I'm fine with, but if you see me currently composing one, please, please do not put any chessbucks on it.

If you have any other suggestions, let me know! :)

< Maybe a P5? >

I think <Switch> had that before, but it was something along the lines of "Caruana and 2 other wins", not the typical WDDDD or whatever. Trust me, I think 243 options is too much.

BTW: Is there a limit on how many lines can be used in a bet? :p

Penguincw: Uh, <Fred>, when you said that you would have more cbs than <syd> and <Mark>, do negative numbers count as 0 or not?

FSR: <OCF> You talking to me? Between all these contests, I could devote my life to chess prognostication. I think I did pretty well in <Golden Executive>'s prediction contest considering that I gave odds of two rounds.

Aug-23-15 <MarkFinan: <FSR: After Carlsen wins the tournament I'll have more money than you two put together.> Anyone for a memorable quote?

Lol. I'll be referring back to this post Fred.>

You're a real Prognostication God, Mark. No wonder you want bets with less skill and more luck. How does it feel getting crushed like a bug?

Sep-02-15  MarkFinan: Once again the dark side clouds everything. I can only say that when the force was strong with Chnebly and Sith Switch I put my 3500 funds and 1500 I loaned all on 1 round.

I ended up with 8 cb's! Anyway I've already qualified... A certain mustachioed cuddle bumps hasn't.

I'll be back and I'll be victorious in the championship leg.

Sep-02-15  sydbarrett: Cut me some slack, Freddie boy... I never tried this game until 2 months ago. You've been at it for years. I know what mistakes not to make for the next leg. I'd tell you what they were, but I'm not giving my secrets away. Trust me I'll be an even more efficient machine next time around. Penguin, when does this leg end, by the way? Just a few more rounds at a prime tourney to bet on and I should be back on top.

Also, I woke up too late for this mornings 2 bets. What I had in mind were the correct outcomes, and I would have had 300-500 more dollars to play with.

FSR: I haven't been playing this game for years, Syd. Apart from this leg, I've basically played a couple of weeks of the last leg. Your sidekick <MarkFinan> HAS been playing for years, as you can see from his discussions with <Switch> two years ago. Evidently he had precious little success until he somehow managed to qualify on the last leg.

Penguincw: < Penguin, when does this leg end, by the way? >

No official date has been announced yet, and no official date may be announced. :O

The last tournament of the leg I want it to be the World Cup, which is scheduled to end on Sunday, October 4th, but it may end earlier.

That would be interesting though: not knowing if there will be a "next day" in the leg; the leg could end today, or tomorrow. You never know! :)

But in case some of you don't like it that way, I guess I can always fill out some TCEC bets. However, I like it when a major tournament ends the leg, not some computer vs. computer games.

Speaking of computer vs. computer games...
