| Jul-04-18 | | Count Wedgemore: <OCF> LOL. That's true. 2nd is not bad, huh? And it could have been worse, I suppose. Like being $3 short at the end of the leg. Now, THAT would really have sucked. |
Jul-04-18
 | | OhioChessFan: I was hoping you'd drop one more dollar and I'd have started rumors of $3 under the table payments. What really sucked is that on the very last bet of the leg, I put $20 on a pick 3 for no reason at all. Just to do it. It's really unbelievable that made any difference. |

 | | FSR: <chessgames.com> Boo! I was counting on you to be unscathed! |
| Jul-05-18 | | Count Wedgemore: <FSR> Me too! I trusted our esteemed leader to act like a responsible adult and avoid any unnecessary danger to his health and well-being. HE HAS LET US ALL DOWN. |
| Jul-05-18 | | WinKing: I can live with losing that bet to such a minor injury. Glad it was nothing serious Daniel. |
| Jul-05-18 | | Count Wedgemore: I am a little skeptical to the "Will the Sun Rise Tomorrow" bet. If I bet NO, I should get decent odds, but if for some bizarre reason I win, I doubt I'll be able to cash in my winning ticket. |

BTW for those glued to their stock quotes, here's the page for Netflix: https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/NFLX/ It got up to 398.54 today, but doesn't look like 400 is in the cards, unless there's a big end-of-day rally. |

 | | FSR: Poor <Count Wedgemore> has fallen to C$997. Did <OCF> steal those three chessbucks to add to his count at the end of the last leg? |
Jul-06-18
 | | OhioChessFan: I am guessing <Count> had $100 on loan from the Bookie on the previous round, and is losing a dollar a day on that basis. |
Jul-06-18
 | | OhioChessFan: An idle thought....maybe it's nothing more than people are rounding off, but there have been comments that suggest people are paying exactly 1% interest a day to the Loanshark. But the rules clearly state the interest is compounded daily: <It is suggested that you do this as soon as possible: while 1 percent interest may sound modest, it adds up very quickly when compounded daily. > No big deal, but when $3 becomes important, whether or not interest is compounded daily becomes important. |
| Jul-06-18 | | Count Wedgemore: <FSR: Poor <Count Wedgemore> has fallen to C$997. Did <OCF> steal those three chessbucks to add to his count at the end of the last leg?> Nah, he didn't steal them. You see, the poor guy is desperate, so he begged me to make a deal with him: if I gave him some of my hard earned chessbucks ("to set things straight with <Annie>", as he put it) he promised to tamper with the standings in the next Moves Prediction Contest to help me win a quadruple gold medal in that contest. The offer was simply to good to refuse. |
| Jul-06-18 | | Count Wedgemore: <FSR> On a more serious note: <OCF> is quite right. I did have some chessbucks on loan from the Bookie on the previous round, $120, actually. So the loanshark takes $1 away from me each day. That is, until my loan exceeds $150, then the interest would be rounded up to $2 per day. <OhioChessFan: An idle thought....maybe it's nothing more than people are rounding off, but there have been comments that suggest people are paying exactly 1% interest a day to the Loanshark. But the rules clearly state the interest is compounded daily> I personally think it's simply a question of rounding issues, but a clarification from <chessgames> or one of the bookies, would be welcome. |

 | | Penguincw: <Interest in the ChessBookie game> Check out here: ChessBookie Game Help Page. If your loan is 1-199 chessbucks, you will get charged 1 cb interest/day. If your loan is 200+ cb, the amount of interest you get charged gets rounded down, to the nearest 100 cb. But it is compound interest (not simple interest), and is compounded daily. So if your loan is 400 cb, after 25 days (when your loan is 500, assuming you left it alone), you will start getting charged 5 cb/day, instead of 4/day, and so on. If you get charged x chessbucks of interest per day, your loan will increase by x cb, and your net worth will decrease by x cb (per day). If there's an issue where your loan from the Spring 2018 leg is somehow carrying over to this pre-Summer 2018 leg, well, that's a <cg> issue. Though I'm pretty sure the reason why <Count Wedgemore> is at 997 cb, is because you rather 1) Took out a loan of 500, paid back 200 (300 left), let 3 cb interest get charged, then paid it back or 2) Took out a loan of 500, paid back 400 (100 left), and let those 3 cb interest accumulate over the course of 3 days. (or some combination of the above, including 2 cb + 1 cb interest) I've used the Loanshark before (but not recently), so know how the interest works. |

| Jul-07-18 | | Count Wedgemore: <Penguincw: If your loan is 1-199 chessbucks, you will get charged 1 cb interest/day. If your loan is 200+ cb, the amount of interest you get charged gets rounded down, to the nearest 100 cb.> Okay, so the interest is always rounded down then? Thanks for the info. <If there's an issue where your loan from the Spring 2018 leg is somehow carrying over to this pre-Summer 2018 leg, well, that's a <cg> issue.> No, I don't think it did. Because then my loan would have been even bigger than it is now. What happened was that even after the leg was over I found out that I could still borrow even if there was nothing more to bet on. So I borrowed some more, but perhaps Daniel/CG had already reset the scores without me noticing. What I thought <OCF> meant, and what I meant, was the previous round of bettings, not the previous <leg>. Anyway, it doesn't matter because I screwed up my bets in this pre-season leg anyway: I betted on Daniel NOT getting injured and the Netflix stock to surpass $400, so I'm busted, LOL. But: once a Champ, always a Champ :) |

 | | chessgames.com: It’s true, interest continues to compound (and you can even take out new loans) after the leg is over. It’s one of those bugs that doesn’t really affect anything important. Also you’re onto something the best strategists in this game already know: it’s much better to have a loan of 199 than 200. |
