 | | Annie K.: <Bookie> / <chessgames.com> a couple of things: first, according to my calculation at the end of the games yesterday (including the Ivanchuk-Leko match), my net worth was supposed to end up somewhere above 6000, instead it ended up below 6000 - can you please check your records? Second, <Chnebelgrind> is right, if you were going to count tiebreaks in the Ivanchuk-Leko match, you shouldn't have offered a Tie option to bet on. Conversely, if you offered a Tie option to bet on, you ought to disregard tiebreaks and recognize the match as having been tied. (BTW I'm out of this either way since I was betting on Leko, but fair's fair.) Everything all right with you guys? ;) |
| Oct-29-07 | | feripe: feripe: Well, Ivanchuk won the match, and the rules didn't say that the result would be after 12 games. But I agree a tie is impossible after the tie breaks. I think both situations are unfair. Maybe returning the chessbucks lost to those who bet tie and counting the total amount of Chuck an Leko to pay the winning tickets should be better. |

| Oct-30-07 | | ruzomberok: I´m disappointed over that Greece are favourites in the game Sweden - Greece. Pontus Carlson at 4th table is in a incredible form. He got around 2481 or something and drew against Dmitri Jakovenko (2710). And Emanuel Berg is in a good form too. He won over Yannick Pelletier yesterday. I hope they let Tiger Hillap-Persson play instead of Evgeny Agrest ( 0 of 2). Vassilios Kotronias...I dont know, I think he got an house in Skara, Sweden. But Pontus is playing like 2550. I dont know the english word but...the middle of all teammembers rating. Greece(2592) - Sweden (2553). And if we now saying that Pontus has 2550(but he dont) Swden has 2578 in "middlerating". It`s not a big different between 2592 and 2578! Its only 14! |

 | | Annie K.: <ruzomberok> the term you're looking for is "average" and "average rating". Just please delete 3 of those 4 multiple posts. ;) |
| Oct-30-07 | | ruzomberok: I can`t ! Or, can I ? |
Oct-30-07
 | | Annie K.: You could have earlier - there's a "kill msg" option showing next to the post for several hours after posting (I don't know how long exactly). After that's gone, you can't delete your posts, only the admins can. I make a habit of always returning to the page after posting, and check that everything came out all right, to prevent things like that. :) |
| Oct-30-07 | | ruzomberok: Ok...thanks for the information! But...i checked after I wrote the message and than posted it. And I didnt see my message because I was on page 100, not 101 so I didnt know what to do. But I didnt want to write again because it took so long time. I will remember this. :D |
| Oct-30-07 | | ruzomberok: Are U good at this (Chess Bookie)? Have you bet anything today? |
| Oct-30-07 | | ruzomberok: wow...6121 chessbucks or something! Thats great! I only got 1176 but I started yesterday. |
| Oct-30-07 | | ruzomberok: It`s something weird about me! Sweden won 3-1 versus Greece. It`s a miracel. And I tipped it all right...all draws and wins. In other words WOHOOOO...too bad I only bet 25 at Sweden :( |

 | | Annie K.: <ruzomberok> congrats. :) <feripe> I don't think it is correct to say that "both situations are unfair". Since a tie is a patently impossible result if tiebreaks will be considered, the very act of offering a tie option is a commitment to intentions of NOT considering tiebreaks. This is not the first match bet that has been offered here, and this situation has come up before. I'm just wondering what's up with the Bookie, as s/he/they don't usually make this many mistakes in a row. ;) Hope everything's all right there! :) |
| Oct-30-07 | | ruzomberok: Thank you! |

 | | Chessgames Bookie: The reason why we offered the "Tie" option on the Leko-Ivanchuk match is that the official site made absolutely no mention of tiebreaks until the 12 game match was in fact tied. In fact, even now, it's unclear what would have happened if the blitz tiebreak phase was also tied (would they have gone into an Armageddon format game, or would it have been declared a tie after all?). We don't think it would be fair to retract the money from people who bet on Ivanchuk and won.
I think the only fair thing to do would be to refund the people who bet on the "tie" and consider that it was "dead money" all along. Technically that means that the winners on Ivanchuk should have been paid slightly less, but that's OK, the Bookie has deep pockets. |
Oct-30-07
 | | Annie K.: I bet they would have gone on to Armageddon. Once organizers make up their minds to have tiebreaks at all, they won't stop until they get their <one> winner, one way or another. ;) Well, since you have already paid out the wins to those who bet on Ivanchuk, I agree that you can't very well change your mind at this point (fairness would dictate that you do so IMO, but practicality is another matter), but I suggest that for the next time something like this happens, once you have offered a tie option, you should consider it the Bookie's official policy that tiebreaks will not be counted, no matter what the official site decides at the last minute. Meanwhile, if you're willing to refund the tie bets, I think that's fair enough. :) BTW, could you please look into the matter of my net worth after the bets on the 28th? I think I ended up with less than I should have, and I had an accidentally "discarded" bet on Ukraine that may have been missed after all. |

 | | Chessgames Bookie: We just adjusted everybody's account who purchased the "Tie" ticket for the Ivanchuk-Leko match. The tie-tickets themselves will still show up as losing, but that's alright (just discard them), as the accounts have been directly reimbursed. Players who received chessbucks in this way are: mckmck, viv001, dabearsrock1010, Resignation Trap, Amorphous Codeine, plimko, technical draw, Deathloks, camachoe, Kublo, refutor, and Chnebelgrind. I think the lesson here is that we should put our standard disclaimer "We will ignore any tiebreak protocol of the official match", even in cases where we believe that no such tiebreak protocol exists. |
Oct-30-07
 | | Annie K.: Whoops! Sorry <TD>! ;) |
Oct-30-07
 | | Chessgames Bookie: <Annie K> I think I might have located a discrepancy in your account. You made not one but two bets on the Ukraine-Bosna game the other day, one for 50 chessbucks and one for 100 chessbucks. I believe we ended up paying you off for your 50 chessbuck wager and ignored the 100 chessbuck wager. We will look into this and if I am correct you'll be compensated justly. |
Oct-30-07
 | | Chessgames Bookie: <Annie K> Yes, that was it. Your account was just compensated accordingly with a cash infusion. Sorry about the mix-up. |
Oct-30-07
 | | Annie K.: Oh yes, that's possible! I remembered the 150 final sum, I didn't remember that I got to it by two separate bets, but I often decide to add more here and there after I make my first round of bets. And I was confused because I did think my net worth should have been lower if the entire bet had been overlooked. Thanks very much! :) |
| Oct-30-07 | | technical draw: <Annie> That's ok I'm still 2 grand ahead. (or behind). And it looks like Luxembourg or Monaco are sure losers. |
| Oct-30-07 | | feripe: <I think the lesson here is that we should put our standard disclaimer "We will ignore any tiebreak protocol of the official match", even in cases where we believe that no such tiebreak protocol exists.> I totally agree with that. <Annie> I said that both situations are unfair because there was no mention that the result wouldn't count tiebreakes. Anyway, we could discuss this for years and we wouldn't change our minds. The important thing is that CG has reached a veredict and it won't happen again. And we have a Fredrik to hunt. |
| Oct-31-07 | | TIMER: <technical draw> Watch out! At the current rate that I am losing chessbucks (over 4000 in 2 days and now at about -2500) I will catch you in just two days! |
