May-08-08  technical draw: <Wannabe, Wannabe> You under estimate the power of TD to pick winners OR losers. Remember I was King of the cellar for two years and last time I won the Bronze. So if I wanted to I could lose every bet in the world. Care to make a small wager on that?

WannaBe: <technical draw> First, let me figure out the logic of that bet... =)
May-09-08  technical draw: <Wannabe> Forget the formalities and just send me money to my Pay Pal account.
May-09-08  technical draw: Hey! I think I'll hit the leader board (for all to admire) in the next postings. I hope, I hope, I hope..
May-10-08  malthrope: <technical draw: Hey! I think I'll hit the leader board (for all to admire) in the next postings. I hope, I hope, I hope..>

From one of your admires...

Chessgames Bookie: You can now wager on the Unites States Chess Championships.

U.S. Chess Championship: Winner
U.S. Women's Chess Championship: Winner

May-10-08  technical draw: Hey! I think I'll be out of the leader board (for all to giggle) in the next posting. 15 bets on the last round and I won nothing, zero, zip, nada,
May-10-08  technical draw: So <malthrope> and I will be parting company. Ah! the world of high stakes gambling is not for the faint of heart.
May-10-08  technical draw: <malthrope> Looking at it again maybe my fall in the next posting won't be as bad as I thought. Maybe 14th or 15th.
May-10-08  malthrope: Hahaha ;) Well don't feel too bad <TD>. Me too takes a small tumble as one can't always bet everything right predicting the unfathomable <Coudda-Woudda-Shoudda> in predicting Super GM chess tournament results! ~lol~ Keep your head up and your chin clean things will work themselves out! :^) Regards, - Mal

PS: Betting tip for the MTel Masters - think <Woodchuck> - when the Woodchuck chucks wood he wins! (3 <chuks> in a row so far). <grin>

May-10-08  technical draw: <mal> When I considered Vassily I just chucked him out as a non-winner this time. But it turns out I'm the non-winner.

Yes I know this feeling well <TD>. For if <Planet Chucky> shows up you never know what will happen next?! ;) However, when <Woodchuck the Chess 'Chuk' GENIUS> shows up there can only be one result! <grin>

Fortunately, I was able to muster ^up^ this MTel bet on the <ChessBookie> betting board...

SETTLEMENT DATE: May-21-08
PROJECTED PAYOUT: 1,481 (13:2) M-Tel Masters: Winner
Ivanchuk 197

So, we shall see! :^) - Mal

PS: I've added a new entry category to my Profile <ChessBookie Betting Quote of the Month>. This month's entry:

May-09-08 "kackhander: bless you chucky

the chessbookie loan shark had a gun to my virtual kneecaps."

Posted on the - M-Tel Masters (2008) - page when Ivanchuk beat Topalov in Round #2 - aka: <French Kiss> ~lol~

May-10-08  brankat: <Malthrope> <TechnicalDraw>

This is how I've been approaching my predictions/betting during the Baku event, and the M-Tel, so far.

First step: I make predictions at <YouRang> forum's contest.

Second step: knowing with a high degree of certainty that my predictions will be wrong, I then bet against them at ChessBookie's.

Especially Pick 3 :-)

Worked quite well so far.

May-11-08  technical draw: <brankat> That's an old gambling system. It's called "pre-losing". It's used a lot in the roulette wheel. You make a lot of small bets and when you lose them all then you bet heavy. The problem of course is that you might "pre-win" and have to start over again.
May-11-08  technical draw: <malthrope> Very interesting theory. Do you mind if I try it out in Vegas? I'll just pawn my gold Rolex and give it a try.

Interesting <brankat> ! ;) I'd be the first to readily admit that I separate predicting and betting into two different camps. Prediction can be a science filled with statistics and analysis, whereas betting is accessing the odds looking for the weaknesses in the betting strategy of others. Thus to take advantage of this with the information we have to work with given in the odds, the betting pool and the numerical total of c-bucks bets having been made thus far, etc.

Not to mention our available cash flow, the availability to borrow anew from the Loanshark (if needed) and overall money management (reaching goals generally seeking new betting limits with few risk). When I <predict> I'm betting the stats and my own best judgment. In <betting> I play the odds and hunches, as well as my steadfast choices when I'm reasonably sure of the likely outcome or series of results forthcoming.

Different strokes for different folks I guess. So long as we all have fun that's the main thing! :^) - Mal

Hahaha! [Note: Mal just revised his previous post hence that was what <TD> is referring too]

Well, it took me a long time to implement (what is this is my 4th <ChessBookie> betting try?). In essence it's all the essentials in a nutshell of what I've learned (without going in further details), etc.

Sure pawn the Rolex! ~ROFL~ Good Luck! :^) - Mal

May-11-08  redribbon3700: The US Championship will be won by Onischuk and Shulman again.
May-11-08  technical draw: When the next postings come up I'll have dropped to 20th place, maybe lower. I'll be out of the leader board and no one can admire me..Oh well it could be worse, I could be scheduled for a prostate exam tomorrow.
May-12-08  Akuni: Yes! I'm in 13th place, leaderboard, here I come.
May-13-08  MostlyAverageJoe: <technical draw: When the next postings come up I'll have dropped> Well, thank you for making space for me, even if it was for one day due to the upcoming loss of chessbucks :-)
May-13-08  Ben2000: Dear chessbookie my 1000 ticket on topalov for winning the "M-Tel Masters Winner" is gone!

...And one more ticket betting 190 on Ivanchuk in "M-Tel Masters: Rd 6: Ivanchuk vs Radjabov".

OK, Here how you can do it! ***(Do this on your own risk )*** LOL

First when you buy a ticket copy the "ticket #" in the BET CONFIRMATION link, then use the link "www.chessgames.com/perl/bookie?settle=ticket #". (Use this while you have a live bet ticket)

And your ticket and your chessbucks are gone!
If the ticket wins you may have problem with cashing a gone winning ticket!

May-13-08  Ben2000: This can be serious and it can be used to win by changing the odds.
May-13-08  Akuni: It could only really be used to cheat if the money if refunded to the bettor... I think.
May-14-08  technical draw: I have a $500 cb losing ticket on Aronian. But I believe if I try to delete it I think that would be cheating. So I'm not even going to try it.
