May-14-08  Ben2000: This time "like the other time" I wasn't trying to cheat, I was just curious what will happen, and this is what happened I lost 1000 CB.

By the way I think they should do something about this problem very soon, because now you can create a new account and bet 1000 + 500 Cb (your initial + loan money) in a single event and change the odds for your other account.

<TD> you will lose the money so deleting a losing ticket is not a cheating, you just get rid of it a little sooner. (If you know the ticket #)

One more thing if Ivanchuk had won his game I was a rich guy: M-Tel Masters: Rd 6: Pick Three : White-Black-White [info] 500 LIVE BET 19:1 19.87 "9,935".

Right <Ben2000> the vast fortunes we come so close to winning! ;) All subject to our personal <dump file> and only know to us that take these wild and crazy chances (Gosh could I tell you a slew of <BIG fish> size betting stories!). ~lol~

Of interest is that I'd made my betting marks the previous day (betting $5 and $10 c-bucks to mark my choices). However, was unable to capitalize on my picks. I still won money with my nickel & dime bets though as the 'Pick 3' <White-Black-Draw> was one of my chosen pics! <grin> Although, I would have won a great deal more if allowed to bet but that's all water under the bridge now... ;)

BTW: In case you didn't know many of us were locked out from completing our Round #6 bets. As CG.com was down for several hours just prior to post betting close time (8 AM EDT). I'm aware of at least two hours down time and it started for me at 7 AM EDT (one hour prior to the close of Round #6 betting). From what I can see on the - M-Tel Masters (2008) - tourney page it must have gone into the 3rd hour of play with the kibitz comments posted there (on page -60-). I woke up after a short nap at 11 AM EDT and CG.com was by then back up and running... :))

Thanks for posting the information of what you discovered... I know CG.com has very strict rules re: creating 2nd CG.com accounts and using them to benefit by changing the odds on the bets made. What you uncovered looks quite devilish, if not fiendish, and I'm sure that CG.com will take care of it shortly. :)) Regards, - Mal

Chessgames Bookie: <Ben2000> <OK, Here how you can do it! ***(Do this on your own risk )*** LOL First when you buy a ticket copy the "ticket #" in the BET CONFIRMATION link, then use the link "www.chessgames.com/perl/bookie?settle=ticket #". (Use this while you have a live bet ticket) And your ticket and your chessbucks are gone! If the ticket wins you may have problem with cashing a gone winning ticket!>

We investigated this, and you're right that it's a strange way to try to trick the system in misbehaving. We hesitate to call it "cheating" because all you have really accomplished is discarding your ticket before the winner has been declared. It's akin to somebody who buys a ticket a horse race and rips up the ticket before the race even starts. They've made a donation to the prize pool with no hope of claiming their winnings. Could be very handy for the people who are in a contest to get to the very bottom of the charts, but not very helpful for winning the game.

Nevertheless, we've eliminated that loophole so now you cannot settle a ticket if the bet is unresolved.

SwitchingQuylthulg: <Chessgames Bookie> I'm a bit surprised by what happened to my betting cap... just yesterday I was in the negatives but allowed to place bets of up to 2500 bucks based on the new rules. Then I got lucky with the pick three to win ~5500 bucks and rose back to the positives... yet now I'm not allowed to place bets bigger than the 500 bucks my net worth predicts? Is this supposed to happen? If so, why?

Chessgames Bookie: <SwitchingQuylthulg> The rules are that if you are broke, or near broke, you can get a special extension on your betting cap if you have an excellent credit rating. Now that you're no longer nearly broke it took the extension away from you. Of course if you win more, you'll get the higher betting caps again.

We may change this next leg but we don't want to change the rules mid-leg.

SwitchingQuylthulg: OK, makes sense I suppose... what qualifies as "near broke" though? Having less than the 1000 bucks I started with? If this is the case, I might consider throwing away 1300 bucks today just to get back the cap extension :-)
May-15-08  Ben2000: Dear <malthrope> I know the site was down, that was my lucky part!!! But the unlucky part is I bet 2000 cb on Ivanchuk to draw which he won both, now I bet on his win and he draws. (He may lose today because of the way I have bet!!) LOL

By the way nice to see the problem is fixed:
<YOU ARE ATTEMPTING TO SETTLE A TICKET FOR A BET THAT HAS NOT BEEN YET RESOLVED. THIS IS VERY QUEER. IF YOU CONTINUE TO FIDDLE AROUND WITH URL'S IN AN EFFORT TO TRICK THE SYSTEM, THE BOOKMAKER WILL SEND HIS BOYS AROUND FOR AN "ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT." YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. >

Sneaky: I like the new "credit rating" system even though I don't really understand it. I'm in the negatives and yet the loanshark is willing to front be a grand every day if I want it. And I can put the entire wad on a single bet. So while I'm doing really bad this leg, I don't feel like I'm totally out of the running. One lucky bet and I could be on the leaderboard.
May-16-08  malthrope: <Ben2000: Dear <malthrope> I know the site was down, that was my lucky part!!!>

Hahaha! ;) Great Ben I wasn't sure if you were actually aware of it... It's good to know that you were! :)

<But the unlucky part is I bet 2000 cb on Ivanchuk to draw which he won both, now I bet on his win and he draws. (He may lose today because of the way I have bet!!) LOL>

Some days you just can't even buy LUCK! Even if it fell right before you and said out loud, <"Pick me up I'm all yours!"> ~lol~

<By the way nice to see the problem is fixed: <YOU ARE ATTEMPTING TO SETTLE A TICKET FOR A BET THAT HAS NOT BEEN YET RESOLVED...>>

Ah yes, now everything finally clicks! <Well like *Duh* Mal, get with the program buddy!> It was all there in the previous post you made days ago on May 5th (For which I almost commented on at the time.)...

<Ben2000: <YOU ARE ATTEMPTING TO CASH IN A TICKET THAT YOU DO NOT OWN. IF YOU CONTINUE THIS BEHAVIOR THE BOOKMAKER WILL SEND HIS BOYS AROUND FOR AN "ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT." YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Nice!!!>>

An "ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT" indeed! ~ROFL~ :^) - Mal

PS: <SwitchingQuylthulg> & <Sneaky> - Yes, lots of interesting twist taking place (especially when we fall back). Keep good notes and we should continue to share all we know! :))

May-17-08  Kreifi: Here I come again... or not... who knows. :]

<Malthrope>, throw me some hints, you damn top 10 player!

May-17-08  malthrope: <Kreifi: Here I come again... or not... who knows. :] <Malthrope>, throw me some hints, you damn top 10 player!>

Well <Kreifi> - I've been tracking your progress and you've done good to get out of the cellar! Recently from a minus -455 up to a high of +442 and leveled out now at +324! :)) I assume you've already hit the Loanshark up and twisted his arm for some fresh $c-bucks$ (if he was willing of course)... I'd look to the 'Pick 3's' right now! ;) As of 5:30 AM EDT the betting pool is at $10,171 there with just 2½ hours to go.

Take into account that Topy could win (playing Black vs Bu) and so could Ivanchuk (playing White vs Aronian), but the odds you need won't be found there. :( So, think <outside the box> and play your best hunches where the odds are not only in your favor but they are also astronomical! ~lol~ Is Bu due to win finally? Will Aronian beat Ivanchuk? Finally, what will happen in Radja vs Chep? If I knew the correct answers to these pressing questions I wouldn't just be Number #2 on the Leaderboard, atm! ~ROFL~ Good Luck! :^) Regards, Your buddy, - Mal

May-17-08  Kreifi: Yeah, I'm quite well now... or not well but this is not bad. I didn't rise up like putting all eggs in same basket but more like making small and accurate bets. Hope I can continue it and when I have more money, I can make bigger bets.

Now, just waiting todays games and of course cheering for Topalov and hoping fierce fight for #1 spot. :]

May-17-08  malthrope: That's a good way to view it <Kreifi> - just play your betting game and cross your fingers! :) Right now with my current position, I'll take only small risk and hope something pans out as a direct result. However, I certainly won't do what I've been doing the last few betting rounds where I'd bet everything I had and could borrow, including the <Kitchen Sink> ;) ~lol~ At the moment (lull in the storm) there is no need for urgency... :)

<Kreifi: Now, just waiting todays games and of course cheering for Topalov and hoping fierce fight for #1 spot. :]>

I know! ;) Both Ivanchuk and Topalov are playing great Chess! A pure joy to watch! :)) It all comes down to the final two rounds and still it keeps its high drama and dynamic tension right up to the end! May the <Best Player> win! :^) - Mal

May-18-08  Kreifi: This is stupid game. :< Hope they ban it.
May-18-08  technical draw: Great! malthrope on top of the leader board! Good work. I, for one have given up in this round and I'll just wait for the next one.
May-18-08  malthrope: <technical draw: Great! malthrope on top of the leader board! Good work. I, for one have given up in this round and I'll just wait for the next one.>

Thanks <TD> ! Coming from You that's a real compliment! I was betting <LIGHT> in the last round at Mtel but still managed to win a 'Pick 3' selection <Draw-Black-Draw>... I had 26% of the betting pool there good enough for $4,300, and in 'Topalov-Radja" had the 'Under 40' (some loose change there good for $371).

Finally, I had Chucky to win the MTel Masters Chess Tournament (which included counter bets). Although it was really just a small percentage there in the total betting pool but good enough for a $1,481 win. So, adding it all up with bets outstanding I get a new <Net Worth> of $11,448. Hopefully good enough to stay in the upper tier! :)

"Good Luck" to you <TD> in the next <ChessBookie> Betting leg - I'm sure that you'll be teaching all of us your famous tricks of the trade! ;-) Regards, - Mal

May-18-08  Kreifi: Nice job Mal. Keep it up and show us what you are made of. :)
May-18-08  NakoSonorense: I got killed during M-Tel... I don't think I'm bouncing back this Leg. I'll have to wait 'til the Summer Leg to see if my luck changes.

May-19-08  malthrope: <Sneaky: Sneaky's back and malthrope is in trouble.... oh yeah, oh yeah.... Sneaky's back! :D>

Ha-Ha-Ha! :^) In that case <Sneaky> - I'll be really considerate and careful and try my hardest not to step on your <Red toes> too hard! ~lol~ If I don't get to you then <hcbsb> surely will! <sheepish grin> ;) - Mal

PS: <Kreifi: Nice job Mal. Keep it up and show us what you are made of. :)>

Thanks <Kreifi> :)) - I'll try to do what I can! :)) As you can see, there are some that don't quite see it your way. Their threats, like flies, have a lot of buzz and swirl to them... What they don't know (and will soon find out) is that Mal has purchased (with his massive <ChessBookie> winnings) an extra large <Super FLY Swatter> ! ~ROFL~ :o)

May-20-08  malthrope: <Stonehenge: Did <vanderguile> win 15,000 in one day or am I seeing ghosts :0>

Hehehe <Stonehenge> - no 'ghost' here! :o)

Yesterday's <ChessBookie> betting tabulations - #325 <vanderguile> listed at -4,229 to a whopping +11,087 - a net gain of 15,316 c-bucks! ~lol~

Hmm, blind luck or pure genius!? :^) - Mal
