| May-20-08 | | technical draw: Whoa! Who is this genius <vanderguile>? He should be playing real money! Sorry <sneaky> you're off the leader board. At least Mal is holding on to second place...TD |
| May-20-08 | | malthrope: Right <TD> ! Sneaky took a down fall to spot #215 with $728 in c-bucks. At least he's still positive! :) I'll bet he's thinking, "Got to lose more... Then I shall pull off a <vanderguile>!" ;) Seems the changes <ChessBookie> made (giving away tons of $c-bucks and drastically increasing your bet ceiling when your down and out) may be a force to be reckoned with! ~lol~ I've been watching <TIMER> too and he's gone up and down the ladder swinging back and forth by large amounts! (currently he's at -38,859). Bet he could inform us as to what's really going on down there! <grin> :^) |
| May-20-08 | | technical draw: <mal> Well I'm at 285. I'm even lower than Dick Brain, when does the next round start? |
| May-20-08 | | malthrope: <technical draw: <mal> Well I'm at 285. I'm even lower than Dick Brain, when does the next round start?> 24 minutes to bet post time and 1 hour and 24 minutes to game start! (US Championship - Round #8 at 1:30 CDT). ;) |
| May-20-08 | | malthrope: I'm only slightly confused! ~lol~ Make that game start at 2:30 CDT or 3:30 EDT (12:30 PDT - my time). :) |
| May-24-08 | | malthrope: <ChessBookie> when you get around to it... :) Re: Bazna Kings Tournament: Winner
No 'Khalifman' present (last year's winner) as he was replaced by 'Timman'. Too bad as if we had known it might have changed our betting strategy (in some cases). Oh well... ;) Additionally, it went from a 12 player tourney to just 10 players total. As, both 'Ribli' and 'Chiburdanidze' were removed (not replaced or did not show up). May want to wait until after Round #2 to allow for full verification. :) FYI: Bosnia Tourney 'Round 3' top group pairings:
Morozevich - Movsesian
Sokolov - Dominguez
Timofeev - Predojevic
| May-25-08 | | DCP23: Why Chiburdanidze and Ribli bets are refunded while Khalifman bets are not refunded? None of them play in the tournament. |
May-25-08
 | | Stonehenge: <DCP23> Khalifman played today. |
| May-25-08 | | DCP23: <Stonehenge> You are right. Why didn't he play in the 1st round? I'm confused now. |
May-25-08
 | | Chessgames Bookie: <DCP23> There are 11 players in the tournament and Khalifman had a bye in the first round. We apologize for omitting Timman from the Bazna King's overall winner proposition. If he should win the tournament, all tickets on the event will be refunded. |
| May-25-08 | | malthrope: <Chessgames Bookie: [...] We apologize for omitting Timman from the Bazna King's overall winner proposition. If he should win the tournament, all tickets on the event will be refunded.> Seems fair enough <ChessBookie> ! :) Last year it was exactly the same with an odd number of players (hence 1 'Bye' occurring every round). When I finally got a web page explaining the removal of 'Chiburdanidze' and 'Ribli' also including 'Khalifman' I knew that things would be getting back on the right track! Thanks much for the resurgence of overall 'player vs player' betting too! :^) - Mal |

| May-27-08 | | technical draw: <malthorpe> I see you're still in second place and the mysterious Vanderguile is first . Lot's of luck in the next round maybe you can catch up. |
May-27-08
 | | WannaBe: <Chessgames Bookie> There is a typo for the Carlsen/Leko rapid match: <Who will win the rapid match between Magnus Carlsen and Peter Leko? The event wil be held from April 28 to June 1 in Miscolk, Hungary. For more information on the match> April 28th to June 1?? |

| May-27-08 | | Akuni: Thank you grandmaster draws!
Leaderboard, here I come...eventually...right now I'm about 500 chessbucks behind it... After returns |

| May-27-08 | | malthrope: <technical draw: <malthorpe> I see you're still in second place and the mysterious Vanderguile is first . Lot's of luck in the next round maybe you can catch up.> Thanks <TD> :)) ...with "Summer solstice" fast approaching, which will surely mark the end of this 'Spring betting Leg', my #1 priority right now is *not* to blow it! ~lol~ If only I'd just sat on my hands - I'd still have been in 1st place! <Sheepish grin> Of course, 'Sitting on your Hands' totally sucks! (if not completely boring)... ~ROFL~ Anyhoo, it has been loads of FUN and just to qualify this time (fingers crossed) will be 'reward' enough! ;) Regards, - Mal PS: Question <ChessBookie> will there be betting in Round #6 (May 29th) for the - Bazna King's Tournament (2008) ? You don't have anything listed at this time. Since this Chess tourney has no official <Rest Days> just 'Byes' in every round for each player (11 players competing)... Bazna King's Schedule: http://www.turneulregilor.ro/en/ind... Note: Although, May 28th is the official <Rest Day> for the - Bosnia Sarajevo Tournament (2008) PPS: <Akuni: Thank you grandmaster draws! Leaderboard, here I come...eventually...right now I'm about 500 chessbucks behind it... After returns> Great <Akuni> :)) I see that <whiteshark> has also found his way up on to the LB! ;) |
| May-27-08 | | whiteshark: <malthrope> That's only a happy coincidence because of Timmerman's 47...Rg6. I think it's the very first time that I've ever won s.th. when betting on this game. :D Easy come, easy go is highly probable within the next days. Btw do you know where <Annie K.> is? |

| May-27-08 | | malthrope: <whiteshark: <malthrope> That's only a happy coincidence because of Timmerman's 47...Rg6. I think it's the very first time that I've ever won s.th. when betting on this game. :D> Yes <whiteshark> :) I too considered betting on the GMT game at that moment, but as his position was lost for all I knew he would resign... At any rate, I almost bet 'one third xxxx amount' on 47... Nc1 and 'two thirds xxxx amount' on 47... Rg6 which of course would have won a nice tidy little sum! ;) It's always sooo easy with hindsight... <Easy come, easy go is highly probable within the next days.> Still lots of betting action left before the 'Spring Leg' closes shop! You just never know what will happen next!? <grin> <Btw do you know where <Annie K.> is?> We need to leave her an upbeat message! :) Telling her the news that the 'Spring Leg' finally is almost over... ;) And to get her mug over here cause it's... <"Summertime and the Betting is Easy... Catfish are Jumping and the Cotton is High!"> :^) - Mal |

 | | Annie K.: Somebody called me? ;)
I'm around, and playing, but Mal did such a good job describing the cellar already that I don't have anything to add. :p Hang on to that LB Mal! :) |
| May-29-08 | | malthrope: <Annie K.: Somebody called me? ;) [...] Hang on to that LB Mal! :)>
Hi Annie! :) Sorry for the phone delay... Men are so timely! ~lol~ I'm glad you're playing and having some fun! :^) Sheesh! Well, I'm trying but what's a bettor have to do to win a few c-bucks around here? Looks like <"I hung a piece!"> ;) Who knew Ulfie was gonna win with Black! My goodness me thinks I saw the stitch actually form in the Time Continuum... Plus, I was really hoping Vaganian who score one over Short. Not today! Gotta admit Nigel played a real nice game with a worthy finish! <Crunch> ;) OK - it's back to the <ChessBookie> betting boards! <grin> Best Always, - Mal |

 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: Congrats <malthrope> for assuming the lead! (If only I were wise enough not to buy huge tickets on the tournaments' big disappointments to win...) |
| May-30-08 | | Kreifi: Hahaa, here I come! Beware Mal and others I'm on the roll (after standings get updated). |
| May-30-08 | | technical draw: Well, I didn't notice that Mal toook the lead. Well done! Just play it cool from now on and you should be ok. Is there a prize for finishing first? |
| May-30-08 | | malthrope: <SwitchingQuylthulg: Congrats <malthrope> for assuming the lead! (If only I were wise enough not to buy huge tickets on the tournaments' big disappointments to win...)> Thanks <SQ> ! :) There was a power outage last night (early AM) and as a result didn't get a chance to beef up a few of my crucial bets (ran out of time when the power came back on). Namely the 'Pick 3' <W-B-B> ~lol~ Anyhoo, ended up losing about a grand, so I'll be in $8,000 c-bucks grouping instead of being several grand ahead. It's not the first time! <wink> Besides, I've been going nowhere fast for weeks now... ;) There are some axioms I use (Re: Buying huge tickets on tournament winners) crafted along the lines of the Ferengi <"Rules of Acquisition"> and it goes like this... Mal's Rule #1: <"Having MONEY is EVERYTHING!"> Maybe not the best ideal in a metaphysical world but it sure works well in the <ChessBookie> betting world! ~lol~ Sort of along the lines of this one - Ferengi "Rules of Acquisition" Number #014: <"Keep your family close, keep your Latinum closer!"> Hehehe... If you're having <cash flow> problems (as a result of tying up too much money) as that really sucks! ;o) <Kreifi: Hahaa, here I come! Beware Mal and others I'm on the roll (after standings get updated).> Great <Kreifi> that's 'Good News!' Glad to hear that things have really turned around for you! :)) I'll claim the usual <partial credit> for Mal's wise words of betting wisdom given from time to time... <sheepish grin> <technical draw: Well, I didn't notice that Mal toook the lead. Well done! Just play it cool from now on and you should be ok. Is there a prize for finishing first?> Hehehe... Well, I'll see what I can do about getting back into the betting grove, but for the moment I'm just having fun! ;)) Not sure about prizes the main aim, as always, is qualification (Top Ten) into the Championship Leg! :) I'll kick myself later for *NoT* betting on 'Short' over 'Andrei Sokolov'. You just gotta know that Nigel is hungry to win this event (King's Tournament 2008 edition). The only one that can realistically catch him now is GM Henrique Mecking. Who's playing some great Chess! Also 'kudos' to Ulfie! To see him win (since 'Draw' is his middle name) is always a pleasure. His last game was just a classic. A great Knight vs. Bishop ending against another Chess legend GM Lajos Portisch! :) OK - enough CHESS talk - let's all get back to betting! Shall we? :^) All the Best, - Mal PS: One last and one word suffices - "Morozevich!" :))) |
| May-31-08 | | Akuni: When does this leg end? |
Jun-01-08
 | | Chessgames Bookie: <Akuni> The spring leg will end towards the end of this month. We are not able to give you an exact date just yet. |
