Jun-11-08  malthrope: <Annie K.: :D Now look here, Mal, I want you to keep yourself in the top ten and qualify for the Championship season this time! So...

On your hands -- Sit! Stay!

;p>

Yes Annie - I shall obey... :)) Bet 'soft' and 'easy' just like the 'cotton candy' we use to get at the Amusement park.

Certainly not anything like in my 'wild days' betting everything that I could steal (you know our mutual friend - the Loanshark?), or get my hands on including the kitchen sink! <sheepish grin> Now I'm very happy to report to you a positive flow in my advancement here on the 'Leaderboard' when the new tabulations are made. A small step really, but nevertheless it's a move in the right direction - ^UP^ :D My Best Always, - Mal

PS: My trusty imaginary dog sidekick 'Malfur' barks a hearty 'Wolf' back to you. :) Don't worry, as he always refrains from using the standard 'woof' as he just <thinks> he's a wolf! ;)

Annie K.: Good for you! :)

(Cotton candy, yum. Amusement parks are great too - don't let the kids hog'em!)

Jun-11-08  malthrope: <Annie K.: Good for you! :)

(Cotton candy, yum. Amusement parks are great too - don't let the kids hog'em!)>

Never! ;) Keeping in the 'Pink' is just the right color for my 'cotton candy'. ~lol~ I have some clever bets planned, but the Loanshark and the Kitchen sink get the day off... I'll just go with the flow and play my best hunches (with a Mal twist de jour). Thanks Annie... You're the best! :^) Cheers, - Mal

Jun-12-08  Ricardo2001: Sorry to say that my "Go for broke!" operation was effective... I'm broke now! =P I take a shark loan as last resort... wish me luck =/
Jun-12-08  malthrope: <Ricardo2001: Sorry to say that my "Go for broke!" operation was effective... I'm broke now! =P I take a shark loan as last resort... wish me luck =/>

Well <Ricardo2001> you know what they say, "Lessons learned the <hard way> are the best lessons of all!" <wink> We've all learned through 'hard knocks' and a mistake once made - is hopefully not repeated any time soon! ~lol~ Besides, this is my 4th attempt and I've been on top of the Leaderboard many times. ~sigh~ :)

Now, Annie has kindly chided and reminded me well what my <goal> here is... I've got only one thing left to do, "Keep my <Eyes> on the Prize." That would be qualification into the Winter Championship leg! ;) "Good Luck" <Ricardo2001> with the Loanshark! You'll find him to be a little rough around the edges at times, but deep down in CG.com's ultimate wisdom they gave him a 'Heart of Gold!' :^) Regards, - Mal

PS: Annie just wanted to let you know that Malfur and I are doing just fine. Continuing to move ^UP^ the Leaderboard albeit a bit slowly... ~lol~ Better 'up' then 'down!' ;p

Jun-12-08  Ricardo2001: The loan was fruitful, I'd bet it for the sure (against Van Wely =D), so I have now around one thousand funds. Ready for "Go for broke! Operation #2" =D. I'll keep you informed...
Jun-13-08  malthrope: <Ricardo2001: The loan was fruitful, I'd bet it for the sure (against Van Wely =D), so I have now around one thousand funds. Ready for "Go for broke! Operation #2" =D. I'll keep you informed...>

That's Great! :)) Yes, many rule changes implemented in this <ChessBookie> betting season (with increased loan amounts and bet ceilings increased and adjusted when you go broke below zero)...

Just remember that both King Loek and Onischuk are coming off hard losses (VW to Nisi and Alexander to Svidler). Plus, they are both at the bottom of the scoreboard, atm. In principal their previous score against one another highly favors Onischuk (+3 =1 with Onischuk winning with both White & Black).

However, under the given set of circumstances I'd be unwilling to positively say that (VW-Onischuk - result 0-1) is a shoe in! ~lol~ So, bet with some caution, but if it works, who am I to say? "Good Luck" in any case! <wink> :) Regards, - Mal

PS: I should mention that I'll also be placing a small bet on Onischuk - it's the right move! (with a c-bucks bet of $10 getting you $55). ;)

Jun-14-08  Kreifi: This is frustrating. :/ I don't now how should I play. Should I play slow? Or at all? Or should I play as I have played so far?

Dammit. :P

Jun-14-08  Trigonometrist:

<Kreifi>

Play what?..Chess?

Jun-14-08  Kreifi: Emm, Chessbookie? :D
Jun-15-08  Trigonometrist: <Kreifi>

Well the Chessbookie is a combination of luck and flair...

It doesn't matter if you are unable to do well..

Btw correct me if I'm wrong, did we meet earlier during a live match which got cancelled? I think it was a Morozevich game...

Jun-15-08  Kreifi: <Trigonometrist: <Kreifi>

Well the Chessbookie is a combination of luck and flair...> Well yeah, there is element of luck but like in chess you are able to almost totally neutralize it but you have to be good and do some work.

<Btw correct me if I'm wrong, did we meet earlier during a live match which got cancelled? I think it was a Morozevich game..>Might be but can't say for sure, with this memory what can only remember two first moves....

Jun-16-08  Ricardo2001: Quick report. GFBO#2 ("Go for broke! Operation #2") was very good: I have now 2.5 K ChessBucks, and I'd bet around 1.5 K in the current round. My preferred bets this last two rounds were pick three and # of draws.
Jun-17-08  malthrope: <Ricardo2001: Quick report. GFBO#2 ("Go for broke! Operation #2") was very good: I have now 2.5 K ChessBucks...>

That's terrific <Ricardo2001>! :) Now, if only I'd followed Annie's advice to the letter and sat on my hands (Sit! Stay! ;p) when I was flush with $16,308 c-bucks! ~lol~ Ran into some 'bad luck' instead and I couldn't <Win a Bet> even if I stepped on it. :( Oh well... :^) - Mal

Jun-17-08  Brettwith2ts: <Ricardo2001> I like the way you think. I'm goin' all in, boys!

And since we're all gambling here anyways, wanna take bets on how much I lose?

Jun-17-08  Buddy Revell: <malthrope: (...) Ran into some 'bad luck' instead and I couldn't <Win a Bet> even if I stepped on it. :( Oh well... :^) - Mal> Let me guess... Did that 'bad luck' have something to do with Carlsen and Onischuk drawing? ;)
Jun-17-08  malthrope: <Buddy Revell: <malthrope: (...) Ran into some 'bad luck' instead and I couldn't <Win a Bet> [...]> Let me guess... Did that 'bad luck' have something to do with Carlsen and Onischuk drawing? ;)>

I wish it were <Buddy Revell> ;) It was in the previous round with Nisi to draw against the wunderkind <Magnus the Magnificent> He failed! ~lol~ Then Aronian and Gelfie to Win with White in the penultimate round (Asrian Memorial) - they both draw! I should have just <pulled the trigger> when Moro played Black against Leko in the last round... Won $c-bucks$ but could have won a LOT more... ;)

Funny what losing does to your betting confidence! <sheepish grin> I'll keep trying, my last good day was Friday the 13th - my <Black Friday> ! :)) I should have just sat on it ($16,308 c-bucks) but Nooooooooooo... Gotta bet! ~ROFL~ :^) - Mal

By the way: at the end of the leg we tend to recompute the statistics earlier in the day, so that you can plan your betting more strategically. So watch the leaderboard and wager accordingly!
