Well done indeed <Stonehenge> ! :)) Right behind <Robin01> with $27,479 and <SwitchingQuylthulg> at $28,886 our glorious <ChessBookie> leader... ;) It's gonna be a close one! <grin> :^) |

Annie will beat the living <you know what> out of me if I do! ~ROFL~ <OT> - I've got some great Judy pics that I'm gonna share later with you... :) Also, I'll drop bye your place as well (at the very least to apologize for all this 'wild & crazy' betting frenzy!) <sheepish grin> :^) - Mal |

| Jun-17-08 | | Kreifi: <Chessgames Bookie: By the way: at the end of the leg we tend to recompute the statistics earlier in the day, so that you can plan your betting more strategically. So watch the leaderboard and wager accordingly!>Oh, that will be very useful. Thanks! I have bet very lightly and "safe" last two rounds but it has not work well. :D Damn you Sneaky. ;) You are one sneaky guy. |
| Jun-17-08 | | achieve: That's cool, Mal, I just shot my proverbial mouth off... ;- Holland is just about to kick off at the EC.... After that it's back to chess!! ;-)
Catcha later... :P

| Jun-17-08 | | malthrope: <Ricardo2001: Bad luck in the last two rounds... I'm throwing all my nearly 1K remaining chessbucks to the pick three roulette. Last chance to catch up the top ten!!> "Good Luck" - <Ricardo2001> - hope you catch a nice trio of BIG fish! ;) All kidding aside just remember we have 3 Betting legs in total to qualify for the Winter Championship leg! :) Here's a quick glimpse of the 3 legs held last year and the Championship leg... Spring... // http://www.chessgames.com/chessbook... Summer... // http://www.chessgames.com/chessbook... Fall... // http://www.chessgames.com/chessbook... The Winter Leg Championship... // http://www.chessgames.com/chessbook... You can also access everything here (all the qualifiers, stats and winners) in the Chessgames Bookmaker Game... // ChessBookie Hall of Fame It was won by <percyblakeney> with $25,845 c-bucks just edging out <Sneaky> who was right behind him with $24,523 - very, very close indeed. Couldn't possibly have been any closer even if it was Horseshoes! :)) Also, it should be pointed out that <technical draw> placed 3rd with $20,625. He did so without the benefit of previous qualification in the 3 legs and thus started with only $1,000 just like all the rest of us! ~lol~ Since, all pre-qualifiers from the previous legs, Spring, Summer & Fall, get a hefty $10,000 smackeroos in 'c-bucks' to start off with in the <ChessBookie> Winter Championship betting game. ;) A huge advantage, but he showed that it was possible to come from behind even starting with such a monetary c-bucks disadvantage... It's what we all PLAY for! <grin> :^) - Mal |

 | | Chessgames Bookie: Now that the leg is almost over, we'd like to know: How does everybody like the new ChessBookie "economic stimulus" package? For those who are still unclear: under the new rules, your secret "credit rating" increases the more you play the game, the more bets you make, the more loans you make and pay back. As your credit rating grows, your betting cap increases, as well as the loanshark's willingness to front you chessbucks. So whether you win or lose, the stakes of the game will increase for you if you continue to play regularly. We like the new rules and see some definite advantages. Irrational odds are corrected more efficiently by the market now, because even people who are in the negatives are able to get loans on demand to exploit such situations. We are planning on using the same system next leg, with a few minor adjustments. We'll have a quick discussion about the changes, and solicit advice, between legs. In the meantime, good luck with the last rounds of betting. |
| Jun-18-08 | | Kreifi: <Chessgames Bookie> Everything else looks good but betting cap seems to come too high. Now we are playing almost full leg and then last and mayby second last round bet all you have. It kind of makes useless earlier play? :/ |
| Jun-18-08 | | DCP23: <Chessgames Bookie: How does everybody like the new ChessBookie "economic stimulus" package?> It's definitely a change for the better. The game became more lively. |

 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: I think the new rules are a good change but the credit-based betting cap should be limited to some reasonable number - 1000 bucks, perhaps. That's quite enough to keep the game interesting and credit those who keenly play it; while a betting cap in the area of 5000 or even 10000 bucks would both mean there's no penalty for being in the negatives (rather, it's <better> to be in the negatives, since you get to bet heaps of chessbucks) and leads to very large "irrational" odd-twisting bets by desperate people. Of course, as the leader, I'm not particularly happy about people in the negatives still having realistic chances to catch me, so I would say that. ;-) |
Jun-18-08
 | | Sneaky: I think a possible flaw in the new rules is that by extending huge credit to people in the negatives you'll allow people to make whimsical bets, like 5000 chessbucks on the "black-black-black" pick three. Fortunately this leg it seems that even the people in the cellar are taking the game seriously but it's just a matter of time before somebody decides to be a prankster and skew the odds just for the heck of it. |
| Jun-19-08 | | Ricardo2001: 3.8K chessbucks after successful bets in R10.
Betting 2K chessbucks in the last round... Will I make it to the Top Ten? I hope yes!! |
| Jun-19-08 | | Akuni: I bet 6,000 on all draws this round. Had to get a loan, if there are five draws I might get into the top 10... Fingers crossed. |
Jun-19-08
 | | Sneaky: I finished with 12,648. That's got to be good enough to qualify. And to think that I was in the basement for most of the leg! God bless the loanshark! |
Jun-19-08
 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: I had ~7K on draw in Ivanchuk-Eljanov so if I can keep my first place it's a miracle... |
| Jun-19-08 | | Kreifi: Humm, exciting. I have 9k, hope it get me to top10 but it sure is close. |
| Jun-19-08 | | unsound: I've mustered a hair under $8K, and the suspense is killing me. |
Jun-19-08
 | | Chessgames Bookie: The leaderboard will be presented and the winners presented later today. Thank you for your patience! |
| Jun-19-08 | | unsound: I feel I may have lacked patience. Sorry. |
| Jun-19-08 | | malthrope: Hehehe... Well gang I just bet a bit for the sake of betting... ;) Only wanting to risk just enough to gain a trifle at best (if I'd hit them all would have picked up an additional 7K risking just about that same amount as well as a total bet). Since, I figured that <SwitchingQuylthulg> and <Robin01> would be going at it strong 'head-to-head'. The further away I stayed from that the better! ~lol~ So, ended up with $19,274 in total c-bucks here. :)) <ChessBookie> - in regards to your changes in the way the betting game is played and run. I'm with <Sneaky> and <SQ> on this one. Here's why... When you go below 'Zero' and then get bet ceilings far above what's either expected or even necessary, along with abundant loan amounts to fuel any of your wanton desires... Like <Sneaky> says - <by extending huge credit to people in the negatives you'll allow people to make whimsical bet> - By 'whimsical bet' meaning 'long shots' of course.. Also, as <SQ> points out a - <credit-based betting cap should be limited to some reasonable number - 1000 bucks, perhaps.> Otherwise, the random 'chance' factor rises well above what it should be or what is even necessary, IMHO. Unless of course, you're adamant in making this "Wild Card" a permanent part of your betting game. Until you specify your anticipated 'minor adjustments' - <We are planning on using the same system next leg, with a few minor adjustments. We'll have a quick discussion about the changes, and solicit advice, between legs.> - I have nothing more to add at this time. Other than I'd hope <TIMER> surfaces and gives his 2-cents on the matter (since he spent a lot of time down in the dungeon). :^) Regards, - Mal |
| Jun-19-08 | | unsound: The day is not mine. |
| Jun-19-08 | | Vicao: I think the increased loans and the increased betting caps take away a lot of the needed skill. Compare it to the famous double-your-bet strategy when betting on red in roulette (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin... for details on that system). This strategy *only* works when you both have unlimited cash and an unlimited betting cap, neither of which will exist in real life situations (thus making it a useless system). Except in the chessbookie game, unfortunately. I mean if you replace red by eg. "draw-draw-draw" and you keep continue betting everything you have and can loan on that, eventually you'll win big.... I therefore strongly advocate the earlier suggestion of realistic betting caps (like the mentioned 1000). |
